Mtskheta é uma das cidades mais antigas da Geórgia, perto de Tbilisi. Mtskheta foi capital do início do Reino Georgiano da Península Ibérica do século 3 aC ao século 5 dC. Aqui os georgianos aceitaram o cristianismo em 317. O Mosteiro de Jvari é um mosteiro ortodoxo georgiano do século VI perto de Mtskheta. A grande igreja representa o auge da tipologia arquitetônica. É uma verdadeira obra-prima arquitetônica do início do período medieval, com vista para a confluência dos rios Aragvi e Mtkvari do topo da colina. A Catedral de Svetitskhoveli foi construída no século 11, embora o local em si seja ainda mais antigo, datando do início do século 4. O monumento tem uma cruz alongada que parece tocar o céu. A catedral é a segunda maior igreja da Geórgia e está listada como Patrimônio da Humanidade pela UNESCO. O Complexo do Mosteiro de Samtavro foi construído no século XI. Ele contém o túmulo da rainha Nana e Mirian III, o rei da Ibéria, que estabeleceu o cristianismo como religião oficial na Geórgia.

I really enjoyed this tour to Mtskheta, the old capital of Georgia. It was a beautiful and peaceful trip, and the place feels very special with its rich history and amazing views. The churches and historic sites were impressive, especially Jvari Monastery and Svetitskhoveli Cathedral. The tour was well organized, comfortable, and not too tiring. Our tour guide, Nino, was wonderful — very friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about Georgian history and culture. She made the experience even more interesting and enjoyable.
