The bus driver and host were exceptional and I would give them 5 stars. Mount Etna was disappointment. We only saw the older caters that had grass grown in them. The gondola was shut down and were unable to get to the top of the valcanco to see the lava. Viator should have told us the gondola was shut down and we would have picked a different day. As far as I am concerned this was a waste of money.
The tour operators were very helpful and organized. Overall, they communicated the days itinerary well. Mount. Etna was interesting. There are a number of options to do there, including a quad ride, as well as hiking around the craters. Do be aware there is a cost to hike on these trails – five euro. The amphitheater was interesting to see. Time is short so I suggest packing a luncheon eating it at the amphitheater. If you go to a restaurant first, you might be a little pressured for time.
There was no tour guide, i.e. there was no information except the respective time of the onward journey. Unlike the description, none of the drivers knew German and there was no written information (in any language). It was driven with three vans, the whole thing very sporty (125 km/h at permitted 80 km/h, distance on the highway within the column regularly two to three vehicle lengths, occasionally significantly less). At the valley station of the Etna cable car you were handed over to the local quad rental, there the tour was touted and the ride with the cable car made a bit tidy. The quad tour was guided, costs are not much higher than those of the cable car. Those who drove along were thrilled, but could not see anything from the top due to the clouds. It would be good to mention in the tour description that you should take a driver's license with you if you want to drive yourself on the quad tour. When using the cable car, deep snow awaits you in March, at least that was the case this year. In Taormina you were dropped off at a central location and allowed to explore the place on your own. Conclusion: Tour to Mount Etna and Taormina are definitely worth it, you just shouldn't put expectations on the ride there.
There is no talking or pointing out historical land marks . Driver was very cautious and kept his eyes on the road. Very professional
This is not a guided tour, but a shuttle to Etna and Taormina. I had assumed a German-speaking tour, fortunately I speak English. There was only a distribution among the minibuses. We were not welcomed, the driver not introduced by name.
It is a bit of a drive and if you have any motion sickness, sit in a seat where you can see the road be careful of other passengers that might annoy you, but the driver was amazing and a great guy
A great day. Although an early get up and a long drive, it is totally worth it. Etna is impressive. You have a few options once there. You can up the cable car to the next level. The views are spectacular. You do also have the option of adding on a 4x4 to go up another level but you will be pushing it for time. Instead we went back down and walked around Silvestri crater. This is easy walking and has fantastic views. If you more ambitious there is another crater you can climb. It is steep and again, depending on your fitness levels you may be pushing it for time. The 2 craters are found at the far end of the car park, which you can easily walk or there is a little road train for those want it. Taormina is a beautiful place. Stunning views and a good buzz. We headed straight to the amphitheatre which really shouldn't be missed. Either take food with you or we ate in the cafe at the amphitheatre which was definitely the best use of our time. You can also buy take out at the cafe and you can eat sat in the amphitheatre. It's a stunning place and overall would definitely recommend this tour with both visits. Don't expect commentary from your drivers though, they literally just drive you around.
Thank you
An excellent round trip to Mount Etna and Taormina. It was spectacular to see Mount Etna, although it was disappointing not to have enough time to use the jeep and go right to the top. I don’t know if it would be possible to add an hour to the experience to allow people to go right to the top? Also, it takes a long time to queue up and get the tickets for the cable car, could Viator include the tickets in their booking, to speed things up? It would allow people to go right to the top. Taormina was very pretty!!
thank you
On time, well planned; it is worth taking the complete package to go up Mount Etna. You would reverse not doing it! Taormina is a charming town to relax after Etna.
Thank you
We had a lovely day, although a tip if you go April, wear a warm jacket and trousers for Etna. Taormina was beautiful, warm but very busy. Mano was great, he returned to Palermo so that we could see more of Sicily which we really appreciated.
Thank you
