This was a great experience! Our guide, Jennifer was a knowledgeable and experienced hiker. She adapted the hike to our lower experience level. We were able to see the gorgeous sunrise and learn about the mountains and the animals and plant life in the area. Also, Jennifer took great photos, so we have wonderful mementos of our hike. Highly recommend.

This was an absolute highlight of our visit. Guide Steve Hill took us on a tailored hike, sharing his incredible knowledge of the area’s history and folklore, as well as plant and animal life. We would have missed so much without his keen eye and thoughtful curated stops along the path to point out details. We saw the most gorgeous surround sound sunset and even a full moon. And to top it off Steve took gorgeous photos and a video reel of the adventure and shared them with us after the hike. We would not hesitate to sign up for more adventures with Steve on our next visit, and this is a hike you don’t want to miss — fun for all experience levels and can be customized to how far you want to go and what you want to see!

Jen was amazing! We had a great hike and sunrise! She kept the hike mild/moderate for us as we weren’t experienced hikers.

Our group of five, ages 40 to 80, had a terrific experience! Curtis was personable and professional, providing both tips to ensure everyone had a safe hiking experience and tidbits about the surrounding area and flora. Upfront communication was clear, and we appreciated Curtis had gear and beverages ready for the group upon arrival. Along the way he took numerous photos of the trek, which he shared afterward--unexpected yet very much appreciated. If we visit the area again, we will definitely seek out Curtis again!

Steve was a fabulous guide. Beautiful experience. Hiking up to the summit of the saddle. I would say that the height would be considered moderate.

We had such a wonderful experience hiking with Henry. He was so friendly, incredibly knowledgeable about the area, and really customized the hike to our comfort and fitness level. The sunrise views were stunning, and the whole experience felt personal and relaxed. We couldn’t have asked for a better guide or morning. Highly recommend!

Jennifer was great and worked with my high-tempo energy level but was also willing to linger when I wanted to rest and enjoy the views. It was overcast for the sunrise but Jennifer knows those mountains well and took me on a route for different angels to get the most from the view.

This was such a great hike! Jennifer was an amazing guide! We felt so fortunate to have a private hike with her, to ask her questions about the wildlife and the culture of Phoenix while hiking up the Phoenix Mountains Preserve! The view was so beautiful, and watching the sunrise from the mountains was so special! It was a very easy hike, Jennifer tailored our path based on our comfort level, very accessible no matter what your atheletic abilities are!

My cousin and I decided to meet 1/2 way and landed in Scottsdale. While we were here we opted to do several guided hikes, since neither of us are avid hikers and didn’t want to seem too out of place and ask too many strangers questions on the trail. After a ton of research and reading reviews we chose Mad Desert Trekking and sooooo glad we did. I spent a little time chatting with Matt about our goals and physical abilities and decided on 2 separate hikes on different days. First hike was a sun rise hike with Henry!! He was fantastic!! communication was great and he made sure we had everything we needed ( rain coats, yes it was raining) , backpacks, water and flashlights. He educated us on the area, terrain, plant life and we talked a lot about the surrounding mountains and hikes. The hike itself was not difficult, he took cues from our panting to slow down and explain something so we didn’t feel like we were stopping for a break. The views were fantastic, and despite some clouds, the sunrise was beautiful. Henry made this hike such a great experience, we honestly could have spent an entire day visiting with him, we had such wonderful conversations!! Hands down a fantastic company to work with!!
