I’d been past the front door many times over the last 25 years and finally decided to visit, there’s probably more to see in the Handel house than Hendrixs flat but I’m glad I finally saw it, two snapshots of a London long gone.
We loved our visit here! Both Handle’s house and Hendrix’s flat were informative and really interesting. There was lots of information displayed, and an app we could download with additional details. But what really made this such a great experience for us was one of the volunteer guides! (Karin I think she was called) She gave us so much information and told us so many stories about the two musicians, it was clear how passionate she was. We later found out from another member of staff that she was 95 years old! She is a credit to the museum, and an incredible woman.
I liked the visit. We thought it was a guided tour but it was docents in each room- some more knowledgeable than others. I thought the parts about Handel were good information and there were several areas where you could listen to his music. The Hendrix part of it was much smaller as he lived on one floor and was there for about 8 months I think although a pivotal time in his too short and illustrious career. If you want Handel information I’d give it an A. For Hendrix info - it’s for hard core Hendrix fans as it as many high points of that period, and some good footage and other information. There is a guide to read you can download but we didn’t bother. The house itself is very nice. The staff were more than friendly and helpful.
This was a really great compact trip out in London. The rooms were well assembled with information accessed in a number of ways-screen/audio/visual. The attendants were professional, friendly and helpful, ready to share knowledge but leaving one to one’s own devices if that’s what was needed.
Nice alternative to the huge museums. Interesting dichotomy of genres in one trip!
Enjoyed seeing and learning about Handel's life and work in the house for over 3 decades. Volunteers gave some valuable information and were friendly. Shame only one headphone was working in the listening room. As for Hendrix flat, more of an exhibition and only his bedroom and spare room to see. Very dark in the exhibition so quite hard to see all the pictures and descriptions. Didn't visit the gift shop - came out a different way we think!
Small but very interesting/informative. The staff really helpful. Great facilities with lift, toilets and lockers. Didn’t realise that there are regular music performances .Sunday afternoon baroque recital and in the Hendrix flat a couple of guys playing Hendrix.Would love to have stayed but had a train to catch so will have to visit again for the music.
My wife and I went to Handel Hendrix House recently on a quiet Saturday afternoon. Location of museum is in Mayfair not far from Oxford Street and New Bond Street. It is very interesting that Handel portion of home is multi-story and then Hendrix portion is connected to it and located on upper floor. Staff was very friendly and helpful. There is handheld provided that you read for more information. There was live music both classical and guitar on day we went. Admission free is reasonable and you can buy tickets ahead of time. Lot of history and recommend to check out.
This museum is a hidden gem for music lovers. Before visiting, we were especially interested in Jimi Hendrix, but we also enjoyed learning more about Handel and his life. The exhibits are informative and readily accessed.
For a start this is very good value for money gor a central London attraction. The staff are extremely helpful, knowledgable and friendly and willing to talk at length on the exhibits, the location, history or any other topic. I had a personal 20 minute talk on the history and construction of the harpsichord and a short recital. I really cant recommend enough if you are a fan of Handel, Hendrix or just a music lover.
