If you’re looking for more than a tour—if you’re looking for an authentic Irish experience—John is your guide. We spent a wonderful day with him exploring the Guinness Storehouse and enjoying a whiskey tasting at Pearse Lyons Distillery, but what made the experience truly memorable was John himself. As we traveled through Dublin, he brought the city to life with stories of its history, politics, churches, neighborhoods, and, of course, its relationship with alcohol. His insights into the Guinness family—their commitment to philanthropy, their impact on Dublin, and their deep roots in the Liberties—added a richness to the experience that no self-guided tour could ever provide. The Guinness Storehouse was fantastic, and the views from the Gravity Bar were spectacular, but the real highlight was sharing the day with such a gracious, knowledgeable, and genuinely kind Irish gentleman. At Pearse Lyons Distillery, John continued to weave together fascinating stories—from the remarkable life of Pearse Lyons himself to the beautifully restored church that now houses the distillery. It was a history lesson, cultural experience, and whiskey tasting all rolled into one. Whether you’re a lover of Guinness, Irish whiskey, Irish history, or simply great company, John delivers an experience that is personal, insightful, and unforgettable. He took wonderful care of us from beginning to end, and we genuinely enjoyed every moment spent in his company. Thank you, John, for helping us see Dublin through your eyes. ☘️❤️☘️
If you want a deeply personalized, world-class journey through Irish whiskey, this is the only tour you should book. This was the third private tour Whiskey Island has taken us on: John is incredible—personable, deeply knowledgeable, and able to tailor the day perfectly to our pace. We visited three distinct distilleries, and the private format allowed us to skip the crowds and dive straight into the history and craft. Even as returning guests, we walked away with a massively expanded knowledge of whiskey, learning fascinating new details about the distillation processes and regional flavor profiles. The VIP treatment, seamless logistics, and depth of expertise made this the highlight of our time in Dublin. Whether it is your first time or your fifth, this private tour is worth every single penny. We will absolutely be back and do another Whiskey Island private tour.
Thank you again for the amazing experience and for dealing with our group's antics! We were all huge fans of the tour and we will make sure to pass along your information to anyone we know coming to town!
Hi guys - great meeting you . I hope you all recovered well before the big day! Thank you all for booking, best wishes John
John was a great host! He arrived promptly and took us to craft whisky distilleries that were all in fabulous buildings with each having a fascinating history that he shared with us. It was a perfect couple of hours on a chilly, rainy day. I highly recommend!
Dear Hilary, thank you so much! It was a really joy meeting you and Christian. I checked out Fish Shop last week - it was so good! Thank you and best wishes, John
Our guide was professional and knowledgeable in both the history of the distilleries and Dublin effect upon them. Brought the area alive and made the whisky taste even better with his insights. Great tour!
Dear Michael, thank you so much for taking the time to write this review after your Ireland adventure! Thank you very much, it was great meeting you. Best wishes, John
Participated in this tour as part of a package excursion. So glad I did! I went to distilleries I would not have found on my own. Such unique and and fascinating stories behind the distilleries that are as unique as the liquors being produced. Highly recommend this tour.
Hi Susan, thank you so much for following up with this great review , you’re in the draw ! Hope you’ve enjoyed the game and the post trip . Thanks again and best wishes , John
This was the best tour we did in Dublin! It’s well structured, the tastings are all different and the distilleries are all different! We are long term scotch drinkers but not anymore!
Hi Lilly, thank you so much for writing this great review! I really appreciate. Lovely to meet you and Rick, see you again hopefully! Best wishes, John
John gave great tours and tastings of the Pearse Lyons and Teeling distilleries. The Roe & Co. distillery had a wonderful cocktail class to go with their tour. A very bespoke experience indeed.
Hi Ron, thank you very much for taking time to follow up with a great review! It was great to meet you and your family, and always nice to chat with a fellow whiskey diehard! Hope you all have fond memories of Ireland. Best wishes, John
My Dad is a HUGE whiskey fan and I wanted to treat him to a nice day out sampling whiskey. My plan was to visit the distilleries in Dublin individually , but then I came across Whiskey Island, and read about their half day whiskey tour in Dublin. Not only do they take you to three distilleries, but the visits are all unique. And John knows the neighbourhood so well, there was so much about the Liberties that I never knew or appreciated. We loved it all , a must for whiskey fans.
Hi Diana, what a lovely review! It was so nice meeting you and your Dad, and hopefully see you again soon on another whiskey trail. Thanks for the review, and best wishes, John
We want to tell you that Karl was amazing. We learned so much today, but also had an amazing time. Robert, the taxi driver, was also a font of stories. This is our 10th day in Ireland, and they were right at the top of our favorite experiences. You can't possibly pay them enough.
Hi Alfredo! Thank you so much for writing such a wonderful review! I have shared with Karl and Robert. Yes, having good guides is crucial, Karl and Robert are central to our success! Thanks again and best wishes, John
