Salernum foi fundada pelos romanos no século II a.C., mas o período mais importante para a cidade foi a Idade Média. Nesta época Salerno era uma das cidades mais importantes do mar Mediterrâneo, aqui foi fundada a primeira Faculdade de Medicina do mundo por volta do final do século IX d.C. Juntos, descobriremos a história e a arquitetura da época medieval com uma visita à Catedral de São Mateus, um exemplo espetacular da arquitetura árabe-normanda. Esta igreja também contém uma bela cripta em estilo barroco. Teremos também o prazer de lhe dar algumas dicas de onde comer comida local e onde ir beber um copo de vinho em lugares autênticos. Este é um ótimo passeio também para uma introdução e orientação de todas as belezas da costa de Amalfi, Paestum, ilha de Capri, Pompéia etc.

Neste passeio, veremos o centro histórico de Salerno. Visitaremos os jardins públicos, as praças mais importantes do centro histórico (Piazza Sedile del Campo, Piazza Abate Conforti, Piazza Flavio Gioia), os edifícios Lombard e Norman, o complexo monumental de São Pedro, a Catedral de São Mateus e seu barroco cripta. Sob pedido, pode visitar os jardins de Minerva, o castelo medieval, o Museu Diocesano e o Museu Arqueológico.

Beautiful old city that is overlooked. Roberto is friendly and knowledgable. We learnt so much and it was fun for a few hours before dinner. The history is there if you go looking, but not commonly discussed . Not touristy at all, but enjoyable learning experience.
