Excursão de um dia Adadi Mariam, Tiya e Melka Kunture

We were a group of friends looking for something different from the usual Addis Ababa sightseeing, and our day trip with Danakil Depression Tours turned into one of our favorite days in Ethiopia. The journey itself felt like a road trip. We left Addis Ababa and watched the scenery gradually change from crowded streets and buildings to farmland, villages, hills, and open countryside. We spent the drive talking, taking pictures through the windows, and stopping occasionally to appreciate the scenery. Adadi Mariam was our first major historical stop. We were genuinely surprised by the construction of the church and couldn't believe how much work must have gone into carving it from rock. Our guide explained the religious history and answered all the questions we had. At Tiya, things became more mysterious. We walked around the ancient stone stelae and tried to understand the carvings before our guide explained their archaeological significance. It was fun discussing what we thought the symbols meant. At Melka Kunture, we learned about prehistoric archaeological discoveries and early human activity. By this point, we realized that the entire day had taken us through several completely different periods of Ethiopian history. The combination of driving through the countryside, exploring historical places, taking photos, and spending the day together made it feel like much more than a standard guided tour.

I had an amazing day exploring Ethiopia's ancient history outside Addis Ababa with Danakil Depression Tours. Traveling alone, I really appreciated having a knowledgeable guide who could explain the history behind each place and answer my questions. We visited Adadi Mariam, the incredible rock-hewn church carved directly into the ground. Seeing the church and learning about its religious and historical importance was unforgettable. We then continued to Tiya, where I saw the ancient carved stone stelae and learned about this fascinating archaeological site. The mysterious stones and symbols made me curious about the people and traditions that existed here centuries ago. Our final stop was Melka Kunture, where I learned about prehistoric human activity and archaeological discoveries in the area. The drive through the Ethiopian countryside was also a highlight, with beautiful landscapes and glimpses of rural life along the way. As a solo traveler, I found the whole experience fascinating, comfortable, and very rewarding.
