That’s what our guide, Sam, promised. Did he ever deliver! We traveled with close friends too and what an experience we shared. Yes, somber at times given the events of 82 years ago that took so many lives. But also very informative. The US cemetery with over 9,300 buried there and another 1,000 plus missing touches the heart. Then to stand on the beach to remember quite different scenery to that of 1944 and realise things in Europe could have been different if not for the sacrifice of these men is an experience. On to Point du Hoc where 225 Rangers climbed cliffs to take bunkers. 2 days later only 90 were fit for duty. The landscape including craters is as it was. We went to Le Cambe where over 21,000 German soldiers are buried. Along the way there were ample toilet stops and we were fed and watered including sampling some local cider. The wonderful French countryside was a pleasure to behold as well as the hedge rows which caused so much trouble on D Day. Highly recommended tour!
Brilliant day out, if you are a war historian buff. So much to see and interact with. Sam, our guide, was incredibly knowledgeable- not just on the topic of Normandy, but war and politics of the time in general. Couldn’t have asked for more.
Worth 2 hour drive, little less. The Omaha Beach memorial and time spent there was priceless, as well as the stop at the American Cemetary and German Cemetary. Our guide was very informative and kept us on time getting back to ship with plenty of time.
We were originally booked on the larger group tour, but a few days beforehand we received an email offering us a complimentary upgrade due to our group size of six. Our guide, Bert, was fantastic—extremely knowledgeable and genuinely passionate about both the history and the tour itself.
Just an all around amazing experience. We learned so much in a non-boring way. Bertrand is passionate and friendly and has a very nice voice. The bus is clean and roomy. Very comfy. Safe driver. Top of the line from start to finish. Plenty of time at stops. Highly recommend
Maja was a phenomenal guide. Her knowledge and fun personality made our tour to Normandy a highlight of our trip. Her use of audio clips of speeches, her "sand map" history lesson, and her insights into the history of the war were so important for our understanding of the causes of the war. Maja is a true gem! We also enjoyed the lunch provided. The food was tasty and plentiful.
Our guide was Sam and our bus driver Bernedette. We were on the Majestic Princess docked at LeHavre. The ship excursion has sold out so we were happy to get this one. Our guide Sam was extremely qualified and knowledgeable about the WW2 beaches and cemeteries. We had plenty of time at each stop and plenty of bathroom breaks. A lunch was included that we enjoyed sitting on Omaha Beach. It was a long emotional day for us....we were back in plenty of time to board our ship as promised. I really enjoyed the historical audio clips that Sam played on the bus. It added greatly to the feeling of what it might have been like to be alive at that time. Thank you Sam
Bertrand was an exceptional tour guide. He provided information on the areas we were going to tour. He set expectations as to how much time we had at each stop and when we would be leaving. Everyone in our group complied!
Ash was our guide and he was SO informative! We had an absolutely amazing day seeing Normandy. He told us all of the details about the events of the war and what led to it…some we knew and some were new to us. You will not want to miss this tour…it is a must!
The itinerary was very interesting and well worth doing. The sites visited were excellent, and the tour itself was organized and ran smoothly. The guide was clearly very knowledgeable and academic, with an impressive understanding of the history and subject matter. However, I found him somewhat indifferent and not especially approachable. I often felt a little uncomfortable asking questions, as he sometimes seemed irritated when I did. Unfortunately, the bus driver was also not particularly friendly and came across as somewhat intimidating, which did not contribute to a welcoming atmosphere. One additional issue involved the restroom on the coach. At the beginning of the tour, we were informed that there was a restroom available on the bus. Based on that information, several of us drank extra water expecting it would be accessible throughout the day. However, the restroom remained locked for the entire tour and could not be used, which became quite uncomfortable during the longer stretches of travel. If the restroom is not intended to be available, it would be better to communicate that upfront so guests can plan accordingly. Overall, the tour itself was very good and the itinerary was excellent. My only criticism relates to the friendliness and approachability of the staff. While the logistics and content were strong, the atmosphere felt less welcoming than I would prefer, so it would not be my first choice among the tours I have taken.
Dear Craig, Thank you very much for taking the time to share your feedback. We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed the itinerary and found the tour well organized, as the D-Day sites are truly among the most meaningful locations we visit. We are sorry to learn that some aspects of the experience did not feel as welcoming as you would have liked. While your guide is a highly experienced professional who consistently receives excellent feedback for his knowledge and passion for the subject, we understand that approachability is an important part of the guest experience and appreciate you sharing your perspective. We also appreciate your comments regarding the coach restroom. The restroom is typically reserved for emergencies, as its use can be limited during long journeys on Normandy's narrow and winding roads. However, we understand how this may have been confusing based on the information provided at the start of the tour, and we will review how this is communicated to guests in the future. Thank you again for your feedback, and we hope to welcome you on another excursion with us in the future. Warm regards, Natalia Vexperio
