If I was to give advice to someone considering going from Aswan to Luxor and looking to take in a few temples along the way it would be to NOT do it via a cruise and instead to hire a driver. It's only about 3 hours by road and you can visit the temples when they're not totally overrun by people from cruise ships! That said, maybe everyone should try a Nile cruise once? Our two night cruise stopped at Kom Ombo and Edfu temples, and something I believe all cruise trips will suffer from is the scheduling of loads of ships to arrive at the temples at the same time, meaning they're totally overcrowded and can't be properly appreciated. We also had only a very short time at each site before we had to be back on the ship again. We arrived at Kom Ombo in the evening and so saw it after dark. There were already about 10 or more ships moored up and the temple was extremely busy. For Edfu we were told to meet in the lobby at 4am - yes, 4am! This was a wise move as it meant we were at the the front of the queue ready to get into Edfu temple when it opened at 6.30am, with about 2000 people from other cruise ships behind us! However this is absolutely crazy scheduling as the temple was totally overrun, and by 9am everyone was back on their ships - anyone arriving independently at that time would have the temple to themselves! Shortcomings of our specific booking: 1. We both had diarrhoea on the final morning of the cruise, which could only have been caused by food eaten on the ship. We remembered commenting to each other that a fish dish we both ate was quite cold, and some research on the dangers of buffets revealed that food kept only lukewarm is the perfect environment for bacteria to multiply, so this was very likely the culprit. We both took a number of days afterwards until we were fully well. 2. The included balloon flight in Luxor is a cheap version with less chance of flying. After unsuitable weather caused its cancellation 2 days running we were told it was happening and were picked up at 5.30am. We reached the balloon site and even got as far as having the safety briefing and being told which balloon we'd be in (and that they were waiting for a pilot from an earlier flight to return) before we were told that permission to fly had now been withdrawn! To have a much better chance of flying it's worth booking a more expensive option - we were given a $30 each refund by the cruise company and then booked with the top-rated operator for $70 each when we were picked up at 4.30am the following day and had an amazing pre-dawn flight. 3. The trip included a daytrip from Aswan to Abu Simbel on the first day, however we were staying in Abu Simbel so asked if we could just join the transport back to Aswan (with our bags) and were told this would be fine. However barely a week beforehand we were contacted again and told we couldn't take our bags. We were told a private transfer could be booked for $150 (we ended up booking our own for less). The ship itself was fine, the cabin was a bit like a Premier Inn and in decent eoungh condition, the breakfast room was pleasant enough (although having breakfast, lunch and dinner in the same room at the same table soon got quite boring!) It was a worthwhile experience overall but we were glad to only be on the boat for 2 nights. I've gone with a rating of 3 out of 5 but that's probably slightly generous (2 and a half would be more accurate).
It was all perfectly well organized. The agency supported us throughout the trip and always made sure everything was in order. The cruise was very nice, exceeding my expectations after seeing the reviews. Super recommended
Although totally different from the ones on the photos, we really liked our cruise: Nile Plaza (leaving Aswan 21/11/2025). We spent some time on the sun deck with the beautiful view and the rooms were also great. Make sure that you have some mobile internet since no wifi on the cruise. The food was plentyful, generally good. The staff at the sundeck and the bar were wonderful. However, we got a very early morning call by mistake and got yelled at when I explained that I don't need a wake-up call at 03:15. Our early morning program got cancelled so we had to wait until everyone finishes their breakfast. We were not let to have normal breakfast (even when we offered to pay) because we received a breakfast box earlier (no protein jut bread and sweets). We were sent down to our room from he reception area where we were sitting - the receptionist mentioned his personal problems and his boss to make us leave. 15 minutes later asked for a tip and even argued when we refused to give him extra tip after giving a shared tip for the crew. Altogether I find it very unprofessional of the receptionist, it definitely made us angry and our trip less enjoyable. I feel very sad for remembering this very unpleasant memory more than the views from the cruise.
Very good food and facilities. Service very attentive. Drinks that were not included were not so expensive and very rich
Our teenagers loved it, a luxury campsite that sails the waters of the NILE. A superb boat, magnificent pool, the CIELA, the longest and largest of the boats. A moment suspended on the Nile, resting, soothing, a breathtaking view, good organization, clean rooms with patio door that opens outwards, no regrets to go up the Nile from ASwan to LUXOR in this way. The guides have very good contacts on the spot, so we avoid the queues, pity they are very quick in their explanations, impossible to stop them to ask questions, on the other hand they were private guides just for us, hyper appreciable, up at 5am for EDFOU, you have to be early... TEA TIME, a superb idea, food, one of the best, and varied, that it has eaten in Egypt. Reasonable drinks price, room made daily. Hot air balloon excursion very nice, too bad we waited 1 hour, and we left on the 4th flight, well after sunrise
You have to be honest for the price 1000€ for 2 adults and a child the boat MS Mahrousa Nile Cruise is not at all of the standard. The boat is very old about thirty years, the rooms are not planned to accommodate 3 people there is no room for this (the first one that we were given the two side beds we could not even move) we asked to change rooms the second is slightly larger but barely. The window is tiny this one does not open one should not be claustrophobic, there is also a strong smell of fuel. The shower is small broken equipment and do not look at the property. Conversely the meals are rather good and the staff helpful and pleasant. This boat should clearly be renovated and does not justify such a price, big disappointment we do not recommend at all. Price of drinks on board overprice bottled water at 4 euros.
It's a nice trip. There are hundreds of river cruises between Aswan and Luxor. This tour basically books a cruise for you and gives you a tour guide for 3 days. The price/value is excellent and we loved our time. The cruise ships themselves are a bit dated but they are good enough. Our guide Mohamed (Judge? I think was his last name) was very much a pleasure to have as our guide. He's very friendly, his English is excellent and he did an amazing job organizing us and giving us a great experience. Be warned, you will have some looooonngg days and very early mornings but they were well worth the efforts. With so many moving parts, taxis, sites to visit one would expect some pit holes along the way, yet our trip was pretty smooth and comfy.
Pretty good, good food, relaxing, maybe the worst thing is that there is little time on tours. Pretty recommended for the price.
Boat had a lot of things that were broken, but staff was wonderful and it was beautiful! I'm not sure why a review must be at least 100 characters, but I'll add this demand to make it happy :)
What a journey! We started with a relaxing cruise on the Nile, followed by a powerful visit to Abu Simbel. Then came the balloon ride, peaceful, surreal, and stunning. I can't recommend this trip enough if you're looking for something extra special in Egypt.
