Great activity, well guided in the creation, kindness of our instructor The 3 hours go by very quickly, even without experience
Five Arts Studio batik class is my favourite Ubud memory. The teachers were helpful and patient with batik beginners! We have a lovely souvenir from our travels.
Had a great time today creating batik art and doing something a little bit different. The staff were lovely and explained the process clearly. Our daughters (8 & 12) enjoyed the morning too. Thank you! 🙌
We had so much fun doing this course. The facilities were terrific and the teaching experience was brilliant. We came away with an item that we were so proud of. We are going to do it again when we are again. Would highly recommend. Thank you for a fabulous day.
Awesome experience. Everyone was super helpful and patient. There was also the option to take it with us or to have it delivered locally once they washed and dried it. We received it to our accommodations just a few hours later! So grateful!
It was an amazing and frankly, therapeutic experience. The place is a quaint homestead with paddy fields and hens clucking. It was already such a peaceful atmosphere. First we are explained about the process. We can choose from either a presketched pattern or if you're skilled, your own drawing, and then we trace it on to cloth. Next step is where they teach us to apply molten beeswax using a tjanting brush. Finally comes the coloring. Each step is painstakingly explained and the trainers there were sooo helpful and attentive and encouraging. Lots of tips and tricks of techniques were explained. There was beautiful music playing and a friendly dog Rosie frolicking about. All in all it was a really healing experience. They offered to dry and process our finished pieces and drop them off at our hotel the next day.
Omg! Best experience. Even if you have no experience in batik, it is relaxing and therapeutic. I highly recommend. Be sure to buy art made from children, it’s beautiful and impressive. I loved it here. Peaceful. Take a scooter from ubud-beautiful countryside.
This was a really fun morning. We first picked out a pattern from a big stack, although drawing your own pattern is an option. Then the instructor patiently showed us what to do, let us try the technique out on a practice cloth, made suggestions, and helped us when needed. It was really enjoyable. No hurrying us along, just patience and encouragement. It helped that they had several samples on the wall so that you could see a variety of colors and techniques. The colors fade a bit by the end of the process, so if you want intense color, don't be shy when painting it on. There were a couple of accomplished artists present at the same time we students were working, and it was interesting to talk to them and watch them work. The only reason I took off a star was due to some pressure to buy art made by students of the studio while the cloth was drying. Even so, I highly recommend the experience and would definitely do it again if my stay here were longer.
This experience will be your best! Come with your patience and artistic skills you will need them both! The gentlemen are family, so kind and professional, art is their way of life and they have so much joy helping others to appreciate their tradition, a quaint homestead with a shop, clean restroom, with snacks and cold beverages to keep you focused! Thank You Gentlemen for your kindness and hospitality!
I booked this workshop as a surprise for my mum and dad, who were visiting Bali with me. I wanted to choose something that felt traditional and creative, but also practical and immersive after having a few very busy days. This traditional batik workshop gave us the chance to learn a generations-old Indonesian art form step by step. We sketched a design, traced it in hot wax, and painted it with beautiful natural dyes. It was calm, focused and very enjoyable and was a wonderful way to spend the afternoon.
