Really enjoyed our trip to the iconic Pisa complex before our evening flight home. We bought the complete ticket with full access to all the monuments. Booked our tower climb for the afternoon to give ourselves plenty of time to arrive on the train from Florence and store our luggage near the train station.. Explored the Cathedral and Baptistery first and the museums and Camposanto after the climb. Wear sensible shoes as the spiral steps are uneven marble. Small viewpoints to rest if needed and a couple of viewing levels at the top. Amazing to feel the difference in the tilt as you climb! Store any bags in the free lockers (even small handbags) before you queue and arrive a few minutes early for your climb. Also was quite windy at the top on our day, so secure loose items. Square is nice to stroll around and you can rest on the grass and enjoy the weather if nice. Plenty to see in the other monuments and museums too which were all included in our ticket. Toilets - you only get one free visit to the public toilets per ticket (otherwise €1 per person card only, no cash). This is per ticket not per person so luckily my husband and I both went in the toilet block at the same time, otherwise we wouldn't have got in seperatly as the barcode invalidates when scanned once! There are toilets in the museums though if your ticket includes those Head away from the square if you have time, to find better food options.
We arrived via a bus along with a guide from the cruise ship Viking Vesta. Cathedral Square (or Piazza dei Miracoli) itself cannot rationally be rated less than 5 just based on the beauty, grandeur and history of the place. Our experiences, however, can be quite different. If we came "ON" season with the huge tourist hordes (as opposed to our smaller horde) I can't imagine having an experience rated greater than 4 as there were many more people in the square than I expected on this cold, cloudy and partially rainy day in the OFF season. It was not what I would call crowded however. OUR PERSONAL EXPERIENCE WAS A 4 thanks to our long winded guide who spent too much time talking, which prevented us from seeing more inside the monuments/buildings and most especially the opportunity to walk up the tower. If this is something important to you, we recommend that you buy tickets as you come in the gate - in the long, red brick building to your right, which was the first hospital in Livorno. Tickets are for a specific time and that way you will make it for sure, especially for those who are part of a tour. Cathedral Square is very beautiful and awesome. If we had the chance, we would have stayed much longer or have gone right back again. It took me an hour of researching to discover what the 2 sculptures were to our left just as we came in the entrance. They are Arcturus and Sun i cavalli volanti (flying horses). Apparently they were just installed last year around May (2025). You can learn more about it from the government tourist website at w w w turismo.pisa.it/ en/eventi/Equilibrium. PHOTOS: Except for the first photo of the horses sculpture, I pics I added are just to show how uncrowded it was relative to normal tourist season. I was actually able to get a few pictures of the Baptismal and the Camposanto Monumentale with either no one in them or just a few people in which I was able to edit them out (thanks to simple software since I would otherwise not have a clue).
This cathedral is absolutely gorgeous. Both inside and out I was fortunate enough to go inside which basically takes your breath away. The architect is outstanding. I highly recommend you take the time to see this. This is also in the same center as the tower of Pisa and some other cathedrals.
It is a miracle, therefore Piazza or Campo dei Miracoli. One of the most known and visited places in the world, symbol of Italy abroad. It includes the famous Leaning Tower, the Duomo or Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, the Baptistery of San Giovanni, the Monumental Cemetery, the Sinopie Museum, the Duomo Museum and next to the Jewish cemetery and one of the entrances x the elevated tour of the city walls. Useless any description, as on the net is on paper you will find all sorts of info about this...miracle of monumental complex. From Italian Grand Tour and half inevitable x every lover of beauty, in Italy and all over the world.
The experience was excellent and deserves every cent paid for it. The tickets also give access to museums and cathedral to see the amazing architecture and art works. Amazing trip with family. Parking is very near
For all those who go to Tuscany Recommendation a ride to Piazza del Duomo in Pisa, in addition to the leaning tower there is more to discover
Great experience, probably to hot to visit in August. A flying visit while at a wedding in the area. Will return for a more relaxed visit in the future.
Beautiful Cathedral , historical monument. Absolutely magnificent to see from outside and inside. Amazing architecture and is free to get in just pick up free pass from ticket office near by. Definitely recommend to visit and don’t miss inside visit.
Your team cancelled our tickets THE NIGHT BEFORE so we didn't have time to get other tickets for another tour. Further, the message sent said that I need to contact Viator for a refund which is ridiculous because it was cancelled because of your group. I've used Viator a lot in my travels and not been disappointed, but this was a huge disappointment and not professional business practice.
Very crowded even on a quiet day in October. Queues for tickets but there are ways to avoid some of these. Be very aware of pickpockets! We arrived in the wet but thankfully it dried up and we were able to enjoy the Duomo and the outside of the tower and baptistry. The whole complex is stunning though it is the Duomo that is the star of the show! It you only have a short time to see things then the inside of the cathedral is the one not to miss.
