Comendo Madeira! Wine & Food Tour em Funchal

We were a very small group, Matt our guide had a great sense of humour and was really informative, giving us plenty of local history, explanations about all the plant life, as well as the local food and wine. The tour was very relaxed and moved at our pace with numerous stops for samples of alcohol and food. For those concerned about accessing toilets there were plenty of opportunities on this tour. A diverse range of foods and wines to sample offering a very pleasant introduction to local eating and drinking habits.

Pedro was a lot of fun, very knowledgeable, and built a great food & wine tour that showcased Funchal and all its flavours picking local spots rather than the colour-by-number touristy locations.

Excellent walking tour of Funchal with a knowledgeable and enthusiastic local, Philippa. Lots of local information and lots of small local eats and drinks along the way all of which were really tasty. A really great way to tour around Funchal and try some local delicacies. Highly recommended.

We’ve been coming to Madeira for over 20 years. This experience took us to some parts of Funchal we haven’t visited before. We were in a small party of ten, different nationalities but everyone was quite friendly. The food tasters were ok but not outstanding. As a food and drink tour, it could have been better.

We had an absolutely fantastic time on the Eating Madeira! Wine and Food Tour in Funchal. Our guide Matt was an incredibly knowledgeable and personable guide who made the entire experience both fun and informative. You could tell he genuinely loves Madeira and was passionate about sharing some of the island’s history, culture, wine, and cuisine with the group. One of the things we appreciated most was the smaller group size, which made the experience feel much more personal and relaxed compared to larger tours. Every stop felt thoughtfully chosen, and together they provided what we felt was the perfect reflection of authentic Madeira cuisine and local flavors. From the food to the wine to the stories behind each location, everything was excellent. If you’re visiting Funchal and want a great introduction to Madeira’s food culture, we highly recommend this tour. It ended up being one of the highlights of our trip.

An excellent way to 'see' Funchal and get a 'taste' of Madeira. Our guide, Phillipa, was very knowledgeable, not just about the food and wine, but also about some of the plants and the history of the island. It was a lovely day - all the food and wine we sampled was excellent - but I especially liked the Poncha and the local pork dish. I also enjoyed learning about the traditions of the local food. I did read some reviews before we booked - and the one that said don't eat breakfast before you go as you'll need the room for all the food - was right - but we started drinking at 10am with our first stop at Blandy's Wine Lodge! I'm not used to drinking at 10am (well not for MANY years!), so bear that in mind if you do go! I think I was a tad tipsy before noon. I would recommend this tour as it was a lovely relaxed way to see the city too.

This was a truly engaging and interesting tour. Our guide Pedro was passionate and informative from the very start and really took the time to explain the history, the culture and the traditions of food and drink in Madeira. We were also blessed with the weather which made tasting and eating outside even more memorable. Finding local corners and restaurants tucked away in the backstreets of Funchal offering traditional specialities was a delight and I went back to many of them during the week to savour the delights. Having never done a tour before, I was really pleased and enjoyed every minute. The group of tourists on the tour was also friendly and lovely. Thank you Pedro, you are an asset to the tourism of Madeira. I would highly recommend.
