Gangaramaya é um dos mais antigos templos budistas em Colombo, iniciado pelo famoso monge estudioso Hikkaduwe Sri Sumangala Nayaka Thera no final do século XIX. Depois do Venerável Sri Sumangala, seu principal discípulo, Devundera Sri Jinaratana Nayake Thera, assumiu a administração do templo. Foi ele quem lançou as bases para converter o pequeno templo em um instituto de avaliação internacional. O próximo chefe incumbente foi o Ven. Devundara Keerthi Sri Sumangala Jinaratana Vacissara Thera, a professora do Ven. Galboda Gnanissara, que trabalhou para fazer do Gangaramaya o que é hoje: muito mais do que um templo no termo convencional, mas um lugar de culto, um lugar de aprendizado e um centro cultural.
O edifício de estilo neobarroco foi construído durante a era colonial britânica para abrigar o Conselho Legislativo do Ceilão, e foi uma idéia de Sir Henry McCallum. Este foi posteriormente incluído em uma proposta feita por um comitê para construir o novo edifício para o Secretariado, Câmara do Conselho e escritórios do governo em terras recuperadas no extremo norte de Galle Face, que foi aprovado pelo governo em 1920.
Galle Face é um parque urbano à beira-mar de 5 hectares, que se estende por 500 m ao longo da costa, no coração de Colombo, a capital financeira e de negócios do Sri Lanka. O passeio foi inicialmente estabelecido em 1859 pelo governador Sir Henry George Ward, embora o original Galle Face Green se estendesse por uma área muito maior do que é vista hoje. O Galle Face Green foi inicialmente usado para corridas de cavalos e como campo de golfe, mas também era usado para críquete, polo, futebol, tênis e rúgbi.
Independence Memorial Hall (também Independence Commemoration Hall) é um monumento nacional no Sri Lanka construído para comemorar a independência do Sri Lanka do domínio britânico com a restauração da plena responsabilidade de governo para uma legislatura eleita do Ceylon em 4 de fevereiro de 1948. É localizado na Praça da Independência (antiga Torrington Square) no Cinnamon Gardens, Colombo. Também abriga o Independence Memorial Museum. O monumento foi construído no local onde a cerimônia formal que marcou o início do autogoverno, com a abertura do primeiro parlamento pelo Príncipe Henry Henry, Duque de Gloucester, ocorreu em um pódio especial em 4 de fevereiro de 1948. Localizado na cabeça do monumento é a estátua do primeiro primeiro-ministro do país Rt. Hon. Don Stephen Senanayake "O pai da nação". A maioria das celebrações anuais do Dia da Independência Nacional foi realizada aqui. Além de um monumento, serviu como o salão de assembléia cerimonial do Senado do Ceilão e da Câmara dos Representantes do Ceilão até o parlamento ser transferido para o novo complexo do parlamento. Atualmente é o local para eventos religiosos e celebrações anuais do dia nacional.
O Museu Colombo, como foi chamado no início, foi estabelecido em 1 de janeiro de 1877. Seu fundador era Sir William Henry Gregory, o governador britânico do Ceilão (Sri Lanka) na época. A Royal Asiatic Society (CB) foi instrumental em trazer à atenção de Gregory em sua nomeação como governador em 1872 a necessidade de um museu público com muita dificuldade a aprovação do conselho legislativo foi obtida dentro de um ano. O Arquiteto do Departamento de Obras Públicas, J.G. Smither foi capaz de preparar os planos para uma nova estrutura no estilo arquitetônico italiano. A construção foi concluída em 1876 e o Museu começou a funcionar no ano seguinte. As autoridades do museu tomaram várias medidas para mostrar o patrimônio cultural e natural do país para esse fim. Com o desenvolvimento do museu a nível internacional, ganhou o status de museu nacional durante o período do Dr. P. E. Deraniyagala. Ele foi capaz de abrir museus em Jaffna, Kandy e Ratnapura e um departamento completo de museus nacionais foi criado em 1942 sob o ato nº 31. A ampliação do número de museus de agências agora aumentou para nove e, além disso, um programa de ciências da escola e um serviço de museu móvel também estão em operação.

A construção da mesquita Jami-Ul-Alfar teve início em 1908 e o edifício foi concluído em 1909. A mesquita foi encomendada pela comunidade muçulmana indiana local, com sede em Pettah, para cumprir sua oração diária de cinco vezes e Jummah às sextas-feiras. O designer e construtor da mesquita era Habibu Labbe Saibu Labbe (um arquiteto sem qualificação), e baseava-se em detalhes / imagens de estruturas indo-sarracenas fornecidas por comerciantes do sul da Índia, que o encomendaram. É um estilo híbrido de arquitetura, que desenha elementos da arquitetura nativa indo-islâmica e indiana, e a combina com os estilos gótico revival e neoclássico. Originalmente, tinha capacidade para 1.500 fiéis, embora na época apenas cerca de 500 estivessem participando de orações. É um edifício de dois andares listrado vermelho e branco doce, com uma torre de relógio, e é uma reminiscência da Mesquita Jamek em Kuala Lumpur, Malásia (construído em 1910). Antes de outros marcos serem construídos, alguns afirmam que a Mesquita Jami Ul-Alfar foi reconhecida como o marco de Colombo pelos marinheiros que se aproximavam do porto. Em 1975, a mesquita, com a ajuda do Haji Omar Trust, comprou várias propriedades adjacentes e começou a construir uma expansão para a mesquita para aumentar sua capacidade para 10 mil.

picture is beautiful but the street where it is main street very busy not to do with small children there are cars and a lot of tuk tuks driven and motorcycles you have to be very careful not to get hit

We rented a van for 6 people and had a wonderful day! Our guide Khan was so delightful! He was kind, polite, helpful, and knowledgeable . He took us to all the sites we wanted to see, and was with us every step of the way to help us or answer any questions we may have. The driver was great too and always made sure the motor and a/c were on when we got back into the van. Khan's wife had just had a baby 12 hours before our tour, and he shared a photo of his beautiful baby girl with us. It was a truly memorable day.
We booked a van for 6 people and toured the sites and did some shopping as well. Our guide Khan was wonderful! He was charming, polite, friendly, and knowledgeable. He took us everywhere we wanted to go and stayed with us wherever we went to assist or answer any questions. The driver was great too. Whenever we came back to the van, he had already started it up so the a/c was flowing for our comfort. Khan's wife had just had a baby 12 hours earlier and he shared with us a photo of his beautiful little baby girl. He was a delight ,as was our entire day.

Really enjoyed our tour with Ferose who was an excellent guide. Saw a lot of Colombo in 3-4 hours and found it fascinating. A real mix of old and new.

2 Sisters, cruise ship delayed by hours and nothing stopped our guide Answer from meeting us as arranged, with a beaming smile and welcome, and an air-conditioned mini van for the 2 of us.. no crammed in taxis or tuktuks for us We set off for a slightly modified tour due to the ships changes, on a fun, laughter packed sightseeing afternoon. The sights were fab, assistance thoughtful and the best he could. Sometimes the language barrier got in the way but when I adjusted my fast Australian speech things were much better. We would recommend Kingfisher tours to any solo, group, family or couple.. Thanks

As I’m travelling solo and doing only a 20hrs connection in Sri Lanka, I had no time to waste, so I booked a guide from Kingfisher tours and they sent Ferose Masse to look after me. Ferose was extremely friendly and helpful, no words can describe how much he helped me throughout the entire day! First off, he picked me up at the airport 2 hrs prior the time we had arranged because my flight arrived early, drove me to a breakfast place, and as I had forgotten to take cash out, he lended me cash to spend during the day. From the breakky shop we went on to the Spice Garden experience, which is very nice, I learned a lot about what plants, herbs and natural medicine can do, after the quick tour around the plants we headed to the Elephant activity point, were I was able, for the first time ever, to see, wash, take photos etc of an elephant, what a magical moment!! Then we had lunch, which was provided by the company, the restaurant was very nice and lunch was plenty of options, all with extremely large portions! For last but no least, he drove me to Sigiriyu rock fortress, where I was able to experience one of the most amazing places I’ve ever seen! After spending the entire day driving me around (lots and lots of driving), telling me about the culture, food, being very nice and friendly, Ferose dropped me off at the airport. I highly recommend Kingfisher tours, not only the driver spoke english, but the car was nice and tidy, I will definitely come back. They made the most of my day here! Thank you, Ferose!
