If you’re thinking about taking this mafia tour, do it! It’s an absolute must-do. We started the tour at John’s with an amazing dinner of spaghetti and meatballs. It was the perfect way to kick off the evening. Lou was hands down the best tour guide we have ever had. He was funny, fun, energetic, and incredibly knowledgeable. He brought New York’s mafia history to life with fascinating stories and just the right amount of humor, making the entire experience entertaining and interesting from start to finish. We wrapped up the tour in Little Italy, enjoying amazing, fresh cannolis that were the perfect ending to an unforgettable evening. If you’re hesitating, don’t. Lou genuinely loves what he does, and it shows. We had an absolute blast. This was one of the highlights of our trip, and if we ever visit New York again, we would absolutely book this tour again. We highly recommend it. If you get Lou as your guide, you’re in for a fantastic experience!
Thank you so much for this incredible review and for highlighting such a fantastic evening! Starting off with that amazing spaghetti and meatballs dinner at John’s and wrapping up with fresh cannolis in Little Italy is exactly how we love to showcase the absolute best flavors of the neighborhood. Our retired NYPD detectives take immense pride in being lifelong New York City locals who genuinely love what they do, bringing an unmatched energy, humor, and passion to every single step of the walk. When you spend an evening with us, you are stepping onto a seamless historical timeline. We guide you chronologically from the East Village down into Little Italy, starting all the way back with the early formation of the Mafia in the 1900s and bringing the story straight through to present-day New York City. Hearing those detailed accounts mixed with real-life, firsthand police war stories from the law enforcement veterans who actually worked these historic cases gives you an insider depth you simply cannot replicate. Our expert team has been featured in major documentaries like Get Gotti, Fear City, and As Far Back As I Can Remember because they truly lived this history. It is an unforgettable experience that bridges the gap between legendary history and authentic street credibility, and we would absolutely love to welcome you back the next time you visit the city!
Frank was outstanding and really knew his stuff. My main issue is that it is a long walk from John's of 12th to Little Italy. Another food stop or two along the way would break up the tour a bit.
Thank you so much for taking the time to share your review! We are absolutely thrilled to hear that you found the tour outstanding and that our guide’s deep knowledge of the city's true crime history really stood out to you. As a team of retired NYPD Detectives and police officers, we pride ourselves on delivering an authentic, deep-dive historical experience. We love using our real-world background to bring the streets, the stories, and the fascinating history of the neighborhood to life for our guests. We truly appreciate your feedback regarding the 1,2 mi route from John's of 12th into Little Italy. We design our walks to cover as much rich, historical ground as possible, and we are so glad you got to experience the full journey with us. Thank you for joining us on the streets of New York City, and we hope to welcome you back for another unforgettable look into the city's past!
We really enjoyed the Mafia tour. It was great seeing the old neighbourhoods, hearing stories about the characters and people involved in ‘the life’. Little Italy and the surrounding blocks are very famous in popular culture and it was cool to see it in person. The meatballs and spaghetti was one of the best meals we had on our NYC trip. Finally to mention, Frank was a fantastic tour guide and made the whole experience very entertaining and informative. Highly recommended! Thanks Johnny and Jenny from Ireland
Johnny and Jenny, thanks so much for making the trip over from Ireland and joining us! Frank is going to be absolutely thrilled when he reads this. He loves bringing those old neighborhoods and characters to life, so it's awesome to hear he kept you both entertained and informed throughout the walk. Also, saying our meatballs and spaghetti was one of the best meals of your NYC trip is a massive compliment—our kitchen team is going to be walking on air! There really is nothing like seeing those famous Little Italy blocks in person. Safe travels back home, and thanks again for the highly recommended shoutout!
The information was quite interesting. It would have been nice to have more perspective and experiences inside the places that we walked by. It was a little difficult to follow the story from down the block. It was fascinating to learn the history about the mob and organized crime, but more detailed, in-depth information, along with actually being able to enter some of the spaces would have been even better.
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We are glad you found the history of NYC's organized crime fascinating, but we completely understand your desire for more time inside those historic spaces. While city crowd dynamics sometimes require us to gather down the block to keep the story audible, we want to note that we do actually meet right inside a famous, historic mafia "red sauce joint" that opened back in 1908—a legendary spot where three notorious figures famously had their very last meal. We always aim to use our real-world investigative backgrounds to bring these spaces to life, and we will definitely take your notes into account to make sure our groups get as close to the action and the deep details as possible. Thank you again for walking the beat with us, and we hope to welcome you back for an even more immersive investigation in the future.
What an incredible experience on the New York City Mafia History in Little Italy Walking Tour with a retired NYPD detective! From start to finish, this tour exceeded all expectations. Our guide, Louie Meatballs, was absolutely fantastic—his knowledge, storytelling, and personality brought the history of Little Italy to life in such an engaging and memorable way. You could tell he’s truly passionate about what he does, and it made all the difference. We learned so many fascinating details about the neighborhood’s past, organized crime history, and the people who shaped it, all while walking through such an iconic part of the city. And the food—wow! Every stop was delicious and added an extra layer of authenticity to the experience. This tour is the perfect mix of history, entertainment, and amazing eats. I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting NYC or even locals looking to experience the city in a whole new way. Definitely a highlight of our trip!

Excellent tour! We started with a spaghetti and meatball dinner that was excellent. The tour was very informative going to places where the mafia frequently did business. Our guide grew up with a lot of made members and took us into their world.

Frank our guide was fantastic. He is a great story teller and everyone in our group of 6 really enjoyed the tour. His story telling helped to take you back and imagine the events. The food was also great. Highly recommend this activity

As our guide, Dennis, put it, this is more of an experience than a traditional tour. As a person who grew up in Little Italy, knew many members of the Mafia, and then became a police officer, he did not merely recite information that you can find on the internet, but regaled us with stories of his own life and experience too. Eating in restaurants with Mafia connections, both past and present, gave us a sense of what it might have been like to live there when the more famous mobsters ruled. The food was great, the walking comfortably paced, and the stories very entertaining. A great way to get your dinner while learning and being entertained!
Thank you so much for your incredible review! We’re thrilled to hear that Dennis made the experience truly special with his firsthand stories from growing up in Little Italy and serving as an NYPD officer. We’re glad you enjoyed the restaurants with real mafia history, the great food, the relaxed pace, and the storytelling. What a perfect way to explore the neighborhood! — Police Tours New York
