Chunky Monkey Beach Club

Massive bait and switch. We paid $99 per person and they make it seem like they have a beach club. They do not. They take you to another beach club depending on whatever. So the place we were taken did not match the pictures at all. There was some kayaking. And a like 7 beach chairs all in the sun. The dude hassled us the whole time about what was included in the package. It definitely wasn’t all inclusive. What we booked was supposed to include lunch and when we got here they told us appetizers only. It was supposed to include a massage but there was no one here doing massages. So we paid $350 for 3 adults and a child for a few margaritas and some appetizers. Terrible.

Once we got out of the cruise ship maze, we found a cab and made our way to the Chunky Monkey. The drive was easy, and it was nice to see a bit of the town. We were the only ones at the restaurant. We thought we might take their snorkel boat out, but the water was a bit rough. We enjoyed the guacamole and of course ceviche (a bit too much cilantro for my personal taste), with a few local beers. After relaxing for a few hours, the staff called a cab for us and we headed back to the ship. Would highly recommend for a relaxing atmosphere with great food.

Fernando and his team are incredible! They were so welcoming and friendly with the best margaritas we’ve had in Mexico. We went to Mahahual with our two young daughters knowing very little about the area and Fernando and Martin took great care of us setting us up with snorkeling and deep sea fishing. They even cooked the fish we caught! They make you feel like family.

Such a hidden treasure, a must go to, they make it such a fun and amazing time. Amazing margaritas!!!! Had so much fun with Martin and a massage right on the beach, so relaxing.

If you rent a golf cart drive to the end of the route stop at Chunky Monkey! Fernando was so welcoming! He sat and chatted with us for a little while and served us the best Margaritas on the island! He even made a special pineapple drink for our 10 year old! Highly recommended this place!

We visited the Chunky Monkey while in Costa Maya on a day our ship was the only cruise ship in port. We rented a golf cart and used the map and started at the one further from the port and worked our way back. Fernando at Chunky Monkey provided a warm welcome, delicious drinks, and the views were breathtaking. We will plan to return the next time we visit Costa Maya.

Wow. Wow. Wow. This place is above and beyond anything I could have wished for. Met by Fernando who gave us a quick overview of the tequila. Started with a margarita for my hubby and a mango margarita for me. Holy delicious, fresh tiny pieces of mango with the perfect amount of tequila. Phenomenal chips, pico, and guacamole. Enjoyed strawberry and mango margaritas with our lunch. The Mayan lobster was hands down the best lobster I have ever had, and my hubby enjoyed red snapper fish tacos. The fish was so flavorful and flakey it melted in your mouth. The prices were very reasonable and the staff was kind and friendly. If you're looking to relax, have great food and drinks, and gaze at the blue ocean this is where you belong. Thank you for a great afternoon!!! Five stars++++

We had read about Chunky Monkey as something to do on our costa Maya cruise port day in the Internet and decided to give it a try. It was one of the highlights of our trip and definitely our favorite port day. We took a taxi from the cruise port to the downtown area that is called Mahahual. We got dropped off on probably what is the center of the boardwalk and began walking to the right. It was about another 15 to 20 minutes until we got to the Chunky Monkey - I suppose you could get dropped off much closer, but we wanted to see the rest of the village. We knew it was there, but there were a few points where it seemed as if we were at the end of the road and if we had not known might have worried we had gone too far or missed it. Upon arriving a very friendly gentleman named Fernando greeted us and we informed him we would like to eat and drink, but not necessarily have a longer on the beach. You could get the loungers if you wanted. He was super accommodating and took us to a cute little table right on the beach. We first ordered two margaritas that arrived in a red solo cup and were definitely up there with the best margarita I have ever tasted and trust me I have tasted as well as made a lot of margaritas! When we told him how much we liked them, our next order arrived in glasses and were described as extra special margaritas They tasted just as good however they were larger. As far as food, we started with chips and guac and salsa and again it exceeded all expectations. We then decided to order the stuffed lobster (we shared it and it was plenty!) and we think we actually saw the lobster being delivered in a cardboard box by two young guys. The meal itself was probably one of our favorites in a long time. It was absolutely delicious. After another round of margaritas and enjoying the scenery and getting some good pictures, we received the bill which was surprisingly reasonable. Even with the 5% surcharge for credit cards I believe it came to about 120 American dollars! No, we did not enter the water. There were people, snorkeling, and swimming and fishing right there, and I believe Fernando and his helpers assisted with all of that. We inquired for a taxi and Fernando immediately procured one for us ! If you have the chance to go to Costa Maya, I would strongly encourage you to visit the Chunky Monkey. It was a day we will never forget!

Stopped at the Chunky Monkey today when we rented golf carts from The Red Shirts. Group of 6. Superb tequila! Great service! AMAZING margaritas!!! By far the best on the beach today. Love love love!!! Thank you❤️

Beautiful, relaxing place at the end of the island. The staff is great and food is delicious! Definitely worth the drive out there.
