Such a fun workshop. Dom explained the history of Jian Bings with an entertaining story, then the technique of making them and was there to help when needed. There was a plentiful assortment of fillings to use, from traditional savoury to sweet chocolate and banana. You can make and eat as many as you can manage. Delicious! Lots of friendly interaction between participants of different nationalities made the experience even more enjoyable.
On the ground knowledge makes this tour company a must for touring Bejing & trying Hutong experiences. The knowledge is home grown.
I did the jian bing workshop with some of my friends in September. It was a ton of fun! I really enjoyed getting to make as many jian bings as I wanted and getting to both make the dough and cook it on the pan myself. I definitely needed a few tries to get the technique down, but it was so much fun and delicious! Also, the teacher was incredibly friendly telling us about the different ingredients and super helpful with showing us the technique. I'm super excited to try to make my own jian bings at home! I'm also a vegan, and I really appreciated that Our Beijing provided vegan options, especially having Just Egg since jian bings are usually made with an egg.
Dom taught a group of my daughter's middle school-aged friends and their parents how to make jian bing over the CNY holiday. It is a fun mid-day activity that sets you up with a full belly and the know-how for making this delicious Beijing street food staple at home. Thanks, Dom!
Me and my friends experienced Hutong adventure and jiangbing workshop. We had so much fun. And we would like to explore more! Highly recommended!
We took the kids last week during the break! Great fun and thoroughly enjoyed by all of us - would highly recommend!
We know that when we leave Beijing, one of the things we will miss is the local jian bing cart that can be found on many street corners. So, to help minimize that future feeling of "homesickness" we learned the secrets of a perfect batter and an array of fillings under the excellent tutelage of Dom from "Our Beijing". It was a great morning of fun with friends, very child-friendly, and delicious to boot!
A Must Do workshop for visitors and Beijing veterans alike (I've been living in Beijing for 7 years) I did the workshop for the first time during the Golden Week holidays as part of my forced "staycation" in the city and it was absolutely AMAZING! From the school itself, no matter how long you've been living in Beijing, the hutongs are a special and unique place, to all the insights provided by the one and only Dominic (also took the e-bike tour with him and can't recommend it enough). Dominic is an English expat who has a way of teaching and sharing the culture and history of Beijing corners like nobody else and he loves sharing it. Learning how to make one of Beijing signature street foods in the heart of the hutongs is a must do experience! Super easy to follow recipe, tips on where to get ingredients and the chance to become a jianbing master within a few hours made my morning and was definitely one of the highlights of the Golden Week.
Great workshop! Dom taught us how to make jianbing in a simple way. I look forward to making these for my family back in Australia. Dom also explained the history of the jianbing and gave us ingredients to take home.
Great fun, Anyone living in Beijing is familiar with the popular street food Jian Bing, nice to learn how to make it and have a bit of craic while doing. A nice relaxing group activity
