Cave Church of Saint Simon and Old Cairo Igrejas do Cairo

This private tour exceeded our expectations. Our guide Tamer was warm, professional, and passionate about Cairo’s Christian history. The Cave Church of Saint Simon was breathtaking in size and beauty. Old Cairo churches were peaceful and fascinating. We learned so much and enjoyed every minute.

Marsil reached out the day before, and our pick up was easy. Once in the van, she asked if we wanted to learn things about Cairo on the way to the churches and the driver, Ismael, offered us cold waters. She had a lot of information to share, and her English is good. She is very proud of her Egyptian heritage, and it shows. When we arrived at the Holy area, she took pictures for us on her phone and sent them all via WhatsApp after our tour completed. It was nice not having to worry about handing off a phone or asking to stop for pictures. The church tours were amazing! Afterward, we stopped by some stores and had the option to buy spices, papyrus artwork, jewelry, Egyptian cotton items, and perfume oils. Each store had a unique presentation and we enjoyed it very much. There was more she was prepared to show us, but we had early dinner reservations, and we had to cut the tour short. She and Ismael got us back safely to the hotel in time for our reservations. Our time with them was a great memory!

We wanted to see a different side of Cairo beyond the usual attractions, and this tour was perfect. The Cave Church was absolutely incredible and unlike anything we had seen before. The churches of Old Cairo were historic and inspiring. Our guide Ramy explained everything clearly and made the day memorable.

After doing the tour Koptic and Islamic highlights i continued with the guide Mina and driver George from Bishoo Travel to see the excavatrd church. Driving through “ rubbish city” where 90 to 95 % are Christians gave me a good view of the daily life of these citizens and their recycling activities, the church itself and the carvings in the rock were brilliant, together with the stories and history of the church. My guide Mina was passionated which I liked a lot.

Mina gave us a great and comprehensive insight into Coptic Egypt. We were allowed to learn a lot about the history of Egypt and Christians in Egypt.

First time in Egypt, we booked a day trip to visit Old Cairo churches and Saint Simon Cave monastery with Magic Cairo Tours via Viator. Our guide Marsil picked us up from our hotel and provided to be a wealth of knowledge of the sites we visited. It was a very impressive journey in which we’ve seen a lot and we learned a lot.Great sense of humour, attractive presentations flexible in adapting the schedule. Highly recommend.

Beautiful experience, very interesting both for the churches that you visit in the Coptic quarter in downtown Cairo and for the church of St. Simon in the mountain.
