We booked an overnight stay at the game reserve. The trip started with a morning pick-up from our hotel. The pick-up arrangement was rather messy. The driver turned up at 8:40 am and demanded us to come to meet him in 1 min or he would leave and we would have to re-arrange the pick-up ourselves. The pick-up time was not mentioned in any previous WhatsApp communication with us. Anyway, it was only after some negotiations that the driver gave us 5 mins to get ready to meet him in the lobby. The experience was not exactly pleasant. We arrived the game reserve shortly before noon, and were arranged to have buffet lunch, followed by a safari ride in the afternoon. Lunch was okay. The safari ride was bumpy (as expected) but interesting for first timers like us. We saw some animals but most weren’t particularly active in the afternoon. Dinner was buffet again, which was passable. After dinner, there was star gazing and marshmallows roasting, which was kind of fun but was too cold to hang around for too long. The worst thing about this trip is the room. The lock was so bad that it could easily be bashed off with a hard push. Also, there is no heater in the room, so it is rather chilly in the winter. Amenities in the bathroom is almost non-existence, so do pack your own. All-in-all, it was okay for a quick overnight stay. I would not recommend a longer stay though as there is really not much to do, especially in the winter.
Reserved a month in advance to be told a few days before that there are no more spots. This is really not serious.
We visited on December 14 during our honeymoon and arrived early to secure a side seat for a better safari experience. However, when a later guest requested the edge seat, the staff asked me to move inside. When I explained we came early for that reason, the staff member responded in an incredibly rude and inappropriate way, saying, “She can just sit in the middle and vomit on you.” This was extremely disrespectful, offensive, and completely unacceptable. As international visitors celebrating our honeymoon, we expected far better service and basic courtesy. Unfortunately, this was one of the worst experiences of our trip to South Africa.
First of all to address some previously negative comments. The Aquila nature reserve is one of the major attractions near Cape Town. Therefore it will be a busy environment. The afternoon event commences at midday . Therefore you need to factor in the approx 3 hour journey. It clearly states to contact the company for your pick up time. Our driver Ian collected us at 8.40am from Camps Bay. He was efficient and friendly and ensured we had a rest stop at a lovely vineyard. We arrived at midday with a complementary drink and buffet with plenty of choice. The highlight was watching the wonderful singing and dancing from a group of four indigenous Africans - brilliant!! At 1pm we embarked on our safari with our host Josh who was great. Amongst other animals we encountered close ups with the lions and elephants. The Safari lasted approximately 2.5 hours including a rest stop and further complementary drink. Whether a trip is value for money is subjective and in our case it certainly met our expectations.
My pick up from hotel was smooth my driver was very professional and pleasant! I saw a good bit of animals only big five I didnt see was the leopard but the buffet and experience was amazing!
Everything's fine. Pick up on time. Food on site good and all animals seen. Which has to do with a little luck.
Small group travel pick up in a mini bus from our hotel was helpful and timely however loud music and raucous other guests spoiled our journey which is lengthy - well over two hours, and we arrived with headaches You feel rather like you’re on a conveyor belt upon arrival - checking in to have your lunch, a big spread ring multiple options however all covered with large glue swarming round which was off putting No detailed explanation of where to go and what to do, we expected to be charged for drinks but the prices were reasonable Our tour guide wax knowledgeable, thankfully we sat near the front as he was quite softly spoken I was disappointed to barely see the hippos and the giraffes from a great distance and that the Big 5 includes cheetahs but highly unlikely to see them - we didn’t Waiting for our mini bus back to cope town, there was limited refreshment options unfortunately I’m glad we went but do feel it could have been do much better
Hated it total waste of money extremely uncomfortable ride in trucks ver bumpy and not good for joints I personally felt the wasteland is not suitable for animals there is no shade at all Personally felt buffet was poor staff very good .Don't waste your money either do a proper safari like Kruger or Sabi Sabi or go to Longleat you will see more animals in better surroundings
Enjoyable day, shame we didn’t see the lions, but so all the other animals. Both the safari guide and the tour guide were knowledgable.
It was amazing!! An unforgettable experience and simply top organized
