Alfredo was the best tour guide. We hiked along the ‘dry’ Mouros River early in the morning so it was cool - Beautiful views, bridges that crossed the river and well marked path. Alfredo gave us options for easier or more challenging ways to travel. We chose the more challenging ways and did not regret anything. The Roman ruins were equally interesting. Alfredo made sure we knew the history of the ruins and gave us free time to explore on our own. He pointed out many things which we would have missed on our own. I recommend this tour for anyone wanting to get out of the city for a quiet day in the mountains outside Coimbra.
Our tour guide was very friendly, knowledgeable, and flexible—adapting our tour for rain with a short hike and seeing ruins.
Thank you for your nice review. It was very nice to meet you and do this tour with you...!
We had a lovely time with Alfredo! He was incredibly knowledgeable about the Roman Ruins. He also ensured the hike was at a pace and difficulty that fit our group. We couldn’t recommend it more! Great way to get out of the city and out into nature.
Thank you for your nice review, and recommendation, Rebecca. It was very nice to meet all of you and do this tour with you...!
It had been raining and the guide's advice was that the trail would be slippery and involved some rock scrambles, so we decided to instead go to the RO, a museum dedicated to the ancient Roman presence in current-day Portugal. It serves as a great introduction to the Conimbriga ruins. If you're like me, the last time you studied Roman history in earnest was in secondary school, so it was a great refresher for my knowledge and it never ceases to be fascinating the technology and civil infrastructure that the Romans built and enjoyed, that was later lost to the world for centuries. After the museum, we explored Conimbriga and they surely must be some of the most well-preserved Roman ruins in all of Europe! It's in good enough shape to easily imagine yourself living there 2000 years ago. I probably still would have enjoyed hiking, rain or shine, but I appreciate the guide's flexibility and the tour was a great success by any measure.
Thank you for your nice review, Chris. I'm glad you liked the alternative tour and, due to the weather conditions, I believe it was the best option!
We had a brilliant morning hiking and viewing the Roman ruins at Conimbriga with Alfredo. We were picked up at our Airbnb in Coimbra, and driven around 20 mins to the start of the hike site. It was a beautiful morning and after a few days in Lisbon it was lovely to get outside for some fresh air. The hike is not too challenging but I'd still recommend decent footwear as some sections were a little slippery. The Roman ruins exceeded all expectations and were incredibly impressive. Alfredo gave us the history as we walked around and answered our questions as we went. Highly recommended.
Thank you for your nice review, Claire. To be able to have an hike into nature just outside of Coimbra and visiting the Conimbriga roman ruins in the same tour is something special...!
The hike was really beautiful, and the ruins (with excellent explanation by Alberto) were very interesting. (Note that the hike involved some scrambling, so it is not suitable for people with a lack of agility.)
Thank you for your nice review, Kent. The hike is very beautiful indeed and the ruins, well, is the better preserved roman city in Portugal...!
We enjoyed this tour. It was great to do a short hike in the countryside. Unfortunately the river was dry but the trail was still very enjoyable. The tour of the ruins was very good. Alfredo was very knowledgeable and provided great insight into the history of the ruins.Would recommend this tour to others .
Thank you for your review, David. I'm glad you and Lori had liked the tour. You are right, the trail is very enjoyable...!
Alfredo was a great host! We had a great day on our tour and he had a lot of knowledge about the places we visited! Would definitely recommend
Thank for your nice review, Ellen. I had a great time with you and Dylan on this tour. You will always be welcome...!
Alfredo was the most amazing guide, sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm for the history of the ruins and nature of the landscape. He was friendly, interesting, and gracious and let us set the pace on the hike and indeed the whole tour. Conímbriga is a “must see” — especially the mosaics and fountains. The hike was a lot of fun too (wear the right shoes!) We will definitely come back and maybe try to catch a performance one evening at the ruins.
Thank you for your nice review Edith. It was really a nice afternoon with you. And, ofcourse, Conimbriga and the Mouros River valley are amazing...!
We had an amazing time hiking thanks to Alfredo. Nature was amazing and we had so much fun. We would really recommend this hike to others. We're unexperienced, but even though the hike was not simple, it went great. Amazing!
Thank you for your nice review. It was indeed a nice hike and I agree with you, the nature there is amazing. You will always be welcome!
