I booked our three-day trek through the Atlas Mountains with Viator, and it turned out to be one of the best travel decisions we've ever made. This was truly the trip of a lifetime. Our guide, Zakaria Boulahchen, was exceptional. From the very beginning, he paced each day's hike perfectly, making sure everyone was comfortable and able to fully enjoy the experience. He was always happy to stop for photos, breaks, or simply to admire the breathtaking mountain views, making the journey feel relaxed rather than rushed. The hiking itself was spectacular, with stunning vistas around every corner, but what made this adventure so memorable was Zakaria's commitment to helping us experience the real Morocco. We had the opportunity to meet local people, visit Berber or Imazighen villages, and learn firsthand about their traditions, customs, and way of life. These authentic cultural interactions made the trip so much more meaningful than simply hiking through beautiful scenery. Our accommodations were simple, clean, and very comfortable, and every homemade meal was delicious and welcoming after a day on the trails. The warmth and hospitality we experienced throughout the trek were unforgettable. Zakaria's knowledge of the Atlas Mountains was remarkable. He shared fascinating information about the local flora and fauna, the wildlife, the history of the region, and the rich culture and traditions of the Imazighen (Berber) people. His passion for his homeland was evident in everything he shared, and his enthusiasm made every mile even more enjoyable. If you're considering an Atlas Mountain trek, I highly recommend booking through Viator and, if you're lucky enough to have Zakaria as your guide, you're in for an unforgettable experience. His professionalism, kindness, knowledge, and genuine care made this far more than a hiking trip—it became an immersive cultural adventure that I'll treasure for the rest of my life. Five stars simply aren't enough!
We had the best experience with our guide Hassan, the hike was very nice wandering around small villages in the mountains. The views were truly amazing. And if you're not too tired at night, you can have one of the purest night sky to watch the stars. The riads are very comfortable. The tajine were very good and the portions are judge. Lunch are not included you have to pay extra (70 Dh/lunch) We would definitely recommend Hasan as a guide for future visitors he let us take as many breaks as we wanted and explained a lot about the villages in the mountains as he grew up here.
Awesome experience. One of the best tours in my life. Our guide Hossain was awesome. Landscapes, food, accommodation and all the information he gave us was incrdible. I would repeat for sure
This was an excellent tour for those who like moderate to slightly difficulty hiking. I'll get the one or two negatives out of the way first: The tour company was very bad with maintaining any contact. I tried contacting them twice to arrange pick-up, but they didn’t respond. The evening before the tour, I had to go directly to their website, get their mobile number and then WhatsApp them. I got the distinct impression that they forgot about me entirely. Regardless, they made arrangements to pick me up, which worked out well. However, the arrangements were that I was picked up by a driver whose bus was full of non-English speaking people going on a completely different tour and I was the only one going on my tour. I had no problem with this at all of course, but it just confirmed for me that they had forgotten about me. In fairness, I admired their ability to improvise! On arrival, I had to wait for my guide for about an hour (I have an image of my guide sitting down to a cup of tea and then getting a knock on his door with someone saying 'we have a fella who booked a three-day hike and we forgot about him…get your boots, now!) Anyway, once we put one foot in front of the other, we were good! My guide, Muhammed, was a very pleasant person to hike with. Knowledgable about the entire area and full of information (although not very chatty, so you were only getting info if you asked for it). In keeping with the theme of having been forgotten about, Mohammed told me that the tour usually has around 15 people on it, however, in this tour it was just me (I’m not complaining, I just find it funny 😅) There were other hikers I met along the way - a young family from Belgium, another from England, a couple of English guys and an Italian couple who I hiked with for a while. All very nice people to hit the trail with. Days 1 & 2 were decent 4-5 hour hikes. Day 3 was very nice, but not as strenuous and then also dove-tailed at the end with the more tourist elements, but that was fine and a nice way to end the trip. The accommodation for each night was great too. The village where the tour company was based was very busy as it was a tourist hub - not a big place, but a nice bit of life around it considering that it’s in the middle of the Atlas Mountains. The meal at the end and organisation for getting me back to Marrakech was also very good. All in all, I highly recommend this tour. The tour company could put a bit more work into their organisational skills, but it all worked out well and Mohammed was an excellent guide to spend three days with.
All in all worth it! + Beautiful treks +Good food +Nice accommodation on the 2nd night +Guides - very disorganized -lack of information -poor communication -no information on proper cloth and gear to bring -trip felt like it was put together on the fly All in all it worked out and I would do it again, just be prepared for confusion about who you go with and where you will go
We booked this trip for the 2nd part of our week in Marrakech after doing a lot of research. We wanted some time out of the bustle of the city and love hill walking as a family and wanted to see a different side of the area and this sounded the perfect trip, well reviewed on this tour and as an operator. I booked a couple of months in advance and then contacted the operator by email a couple of weeks before to finalise arrangements including kit we would need, pick up point advice. The name of the operator is opaque - but I booked through this link on TripAdvisor and the confirmation details were for Targa Travel & Trekkinginmorocco. Basically I had no response to emails, WhatsAap message or calls from the info on their website. Given it was a 3 day hiking trip - we had no info on what we needed - and we had no alternative or back up accommodation for the end of our trip - I took the sad decision to cancel for a full refund offered through the trip advisor booking system early in our week in Marrakesh. We were so disappointed not to take the trip. We were looking forward to it greatly. We had not wanted to spend the full week in the city and ended up having to book last minute alternative accommodation which was not great, in the new city. It was a poor end to a great week. Whilst I received a full refund, i also messed with other bookings meaning I lost £40. There are no recent reviews for the trip itself but many for the operator which given they are still accepting booking means presumably they are still in operation. If you don’t run the trip any more just confirm and I could have made alternative plans. Otherwise you really need to up your communication. I also booked a Riad, cooking classes and bike tours before travelling to Marrakesh and the communication in respect of all, through Whatsapp and email was quick and clear. Poor.
It was hard to contact the guide , the day when we are going to hike, guide finally told us the meeting point location in the morning. Surprisingly we also had lunch , that we don't have to pay. Overall with guide and other people was pretty good, but as the Viator’s 3 days trekking program of day wasn’t exactly as the guide does
We had a great time in the atlas mountains, very nice views and the staff ofour stay was great. Also Idris our guide was very nice and answered our queations well.
Great experience. We started the trip with a group of people who booked a day tour around touristic attractions. I'm not sure if there was a mistake but we might have gotten in the wrong car by accident. Our tour operator Redouane (Red Oun) quickly and smoothly fixed this and we got dropped at Imlil where there was a guide waiting for us. Our guide Abde was a very nice man with a lot of knowledge about the area. We could choose whatever we wanted to see and he showed us around. The guesthouse where we were sleeping provided us with a good breakfast and delicious Maroccan diners every time again. I would definately recommend this trip to any sportive person/couple. We will come back to climb the Toubkal next year!
Had an excellent time trekking through the beautiful Atlas Mountains with Mohamed Bowajamor. The communication and assistance from Ahmed at the travel company was also great.
