We had a wonderful visit to Caherconnell Sheepdog Demonstrations and Caherconnell Ringfort. Being from the Burren and knowing the Daveron family for many years, it was especially lovely to see the pride and passion they bring to every tour. They give visitors a genuine insight into the daily lives of farming families in the Burren, both past and present. The sheepdog demonstration is fascinating, and the Ringfort tour brings history to life, showing how people survived and thrived in this remarkable landscape centuries ago. Both John and Sean are incredibly knowledgeable and honest in their storytelling. They share not only the history and traditions of the area but also the reality of farming in the Burren today. As locals know, it’s a rocky road—quite literally and figuratively—to achieve the high standards they have, and their dedication deserves great credit. This is a fantastic stop for anyone visiting the Burren. Authentic, educational, and thoroughly enjoyable—an experience I’d highly recommend.
Great demonstration and everyone there was so friendly and helpful. We had to cancel our first day due to lost luggage in Belfast but Caherconnell worked with us and we were able to attend the next day. We did the self guided tour of the fort so I cannot review the guide for that.
Started the visit with shepherd Aaron and his 3 collies demonstrating their sheep handling abilities . This was impressive. A huge amount of training goes into each dog and they were able to respond to Aaron’s directions by voice and by whistle. The sheep know who is boss. There is also a 5min demonstration of the different sheep breeds available in the country and a chance to hold a lamb. Worth the trip alone. I was able to understand Aaron’s accent, but I wonder if visitors from further shores might struggle. This would be a shame as he also had a gentle humour and a passion for his way of life. But 100% respect this man for what he can do with working dogs. James did the fort tour. A fabulous 45min with a natural, interested guide. A storyteller who really knows how to make the past come alive. Learnt a lot about our Gaelic history. Highly recommend both tours, which just happen to be in the same beautiful location.
A wonderful and heartwarming experience for young and old. Witty and entertaining commentary from a very knowledgeable and charming host/shepherd. Loved the doggies. We'll remember it forever as a highlight of our holiday in Ireland.
Fun and informative demonstration. Very friendly atmosphere. I recommend this for young and old. It's a beautiful drive to get there (we had perfect weather). Nice café and excellent facilities for the show.
Wonderful demonstration and tour of the fort. The guide for the fort was funny and knowledgeable. He really made the history come to life. The sheepdog demonstration was super fun. Very informative and the dogs were absolutely amazing. They knew there commands and work the sheep extremely well. This stop is a must in my book.
This was such a treat to see the dogs in action. The farm was so clean and well organises, they had seats in a covered area so we had shelter if it rained, but it was great. The shop and mini restaurant were great had a wonderful lunch there. Well worth a stop.
This is a great place to visit for both events
Our visit to Caherconnell was at the end of our 10-day trip, and it was one of the best experiences we had. Educational, entertaining, and so much fun. I was traveling with my adult children, and we did not want a typical petting-zoo experience; we wanted an authentic one. The sheep dog demonstration was amazing. The handler was funny, and the dogs delightful. The fort tour and storyteller who led it were also incredible. The food in the cafe was good, and the shop had wonderful items. I recommend this venue to people of all ages.
Eine wirklich tolle und sehr humorvolle Sheep Dog Demonstration.
