Absolutely beautiful time of day to be out on the Zambezi. It was fun to be up close to the hippos rather than so far above them. When we went (in May), we had an entire boat to ourselves. We very much enjoyed the abundant variety of cold breakfast options. Our captain (Ernest) was kind and professional. He was also very knowledge about the many species of local birds.
We could not get enough of cruising with you. We did sunrise & sunset cruises on this comfortable intimate boat. You feel one with the river being close to the water and get close to the water's edge for bird watching. Ernest our Captain confidently steered the boat around on the river he knows so well and shared so many nuggets with us. Viewed beautifull sunrises and sunsets like only Africa can. And the best was discovering the Smoke that Thunders on our first morning out. We'll be back to chase more sunrises & sunsets. Thank you!
We stayed at the Ilala Lodge and for about $30 we could upgrade our included breakfast to a breakfast cruise. it was well worth it, we saw tons of birds, hippos and other wildlife. The boat is small and intimate anyway, but the morning we went, we were the only passengers. It was so nice to observe the wildlife in a quiet environment where you could hear as well as see them. The captain and our spotter offered names, animal behaviors and other information, which was great. Plus we were back early enough to still have a full day touring the falls.
