We were told the German to English in show was 60/40 but it was more like 90/10. Only 1-2 songs were in English and none of the storytelling. Despite not understanding a word, there was some great entertainers and dancers in the show that held my attention.
Like every Grand Show at the Friedrichstadt-Palast, this production thrilled us too! The Palast itself already breathes so much beauty; we feel very comfortable every time in this ambiance with so much friendliness. The venue also means a lot of history to us, which we already found so great at the old Palast (as children) with Clown Ferdinand, later with our children the children's shows, and now every Grand Show. It was artistically at the highest level,... The artistic performances thrilled us. The dance ensemble is world-class anyway, and during the famous "line" of dancers, a few tears of enthusiasm flowed for me again in view of such high precision and beauty. The costumes sparkled in competition with each other. It was shown once again that it is worth it to "bring such great designers on board." Not least, a big compliment to the singers!!! … a very well-organized venue, no waiting times, everything to make you feel comfortable despite many spectators, every seat has a good view…. The performance itself tries to include every age group; the stage design alone is worth the visit. Personally, it was a bit too loud for me and I found the singing too excessive…(a matter of taste) I am looking forward to the next show - thank you very much!

We were at a show a few years ago, we returned for Blinded by delight, the latest production, beautiful costumes, high level of performers, both singers and dancers and acrobats, worth every cent spent. Because of how the theater is structured, you can see well even from the cheapest seats.

Disappointing language choice for an internationally marketed show. I saw a show at Friedrichstadt-Palast in 2019 that was entirely in English, so I was surprised by how much German was used in BLINDED by DELIGHT. The show was advertised in English, but the amount of German dialogue made it difficult to follow the story. I have no issue with German being used in a Berlin production, but the extent of the German should be clearly disclosed in the English-language ticketing and advertising. This was not what I expected when purchasing the tickets.
My name is Berndt Schmidt, I am the General Director of the Palast. Thank you for visiting and for taking the time to share your impressions, even though the evening clearly did not meet your expectations. You are right that a significant part of the songs is performed in German. BLINDED by DELIGHT is created and presented in Berlin and therefore also reflects its cultural context. At the same time, it is not a traditional musical but a modern revue in which dance, music, acrobatics and visual storytelling play the leading role. This is why many international guests enjoy the production without speaking German. For those who would like to explore the lyrics in more detail, we provide English translations online. For context, the current production is the most successful in the history of our venue, with occupancy currently around 95%, more than 500,000 tickets sold, regular standing ovations and over 95% positive reviews.
