Esta montanha de 10.000 pés na Cordilheira Gallatin recebe o nome do Chefe Crowfoot, um célebre líder da tribo Blackfoot. Diz a lenda que uma vez um urso pardo faminto entrou no acampamento do Chefe Crowfoot em busca de uma presa. Os guerreiros estavam fora e apenas Crowfoot estava entre o urso e seu povo. Mas ele pegou uma lança e enfrentou a fera sem medo. Uma batalha feroz se seguiu... e Crowfoot venceu!
Estamos dirigindo quase exatamente na divisa do estado entre Montana e Wyoming. As montanhas à nossa direita pertencem à Cordilheira Gallatin, grande parte da qual se estende até o Wyoming.
Mais à frente, em breve veremos o poderoso rio Gallatin ao longo da estrada. Hoje conheceremos muito bem o Gallatin: Nosso percurso seguirá o rio quase até o destino final!
Vê aquele aglomerado de montanhas bem à nossa frente? No meio está King Butte, e à direita está Big Horn Peak. Cada uma dessas montanhas atinge quase 10.000 pés!
O pico que se eleva à nossa esquerda é a Montanha Cinnamon. Este pico de som doce ocupa, na verdade, um lugar importante na história dos incêndios florestais em Montana.
Em poucos quilômetros, passaremos pelo famoso Big Sky Ski Resort, que ajudou a colocar essas montanhas no mapa. Mas como é que este resort chegou aqui? Tudo começou com Chet Huntley, nativo de Montana.

A montanha mais à esquerda à nossa frente é o Monte Chipperfield. Diretamente à direita fica Wilson Peak, elevando-se a 10.600 pés. Você consegue adivinhar o homônimo de Wilson Peak? Vou dar uma dica: ele ratificou a 19ª emenda, concedendo às mulheres o direito de voto.
Em alguns instantes passaremos pela estrada que leva ao Big Sky Meadow Village e ao Big Sky Ski Resort. Quando o fizermos, certifique-se de olhar para a esquerda para ter um vislumbre da Lone Mountain.
As montanhas à nossa esquerda pertencem a uma subfaixa das Madisons conhecida como Picos Espanhóis.
Esta caminhada moderadamente desafiadora de 8 quilômetros sobe quase 2.000 pés de altitude e pode levar mais de três horas para ser concluída, mas recompensa os caminhantes com uma vista realmente magnífica: o Lago Lave! Ao contrário do nome, este lago imaculado alimentado pela neve é muito, muito frio. Encostas arborizadas contornam o lago por todos os lados, e você poderá admirar excelentes vistas do centro dos Picos Espanhóis.
A região do Big Sky não tem visto escassez de conflitos. Mas uma batalha muito mais silenciosa está acontecendo ao nosso redor agora. Tribos indígenas como os Shoshone e os Bannock reuniram-se no Gallatin River Canyon, retirando peixes e plantas aquáticas de suas águas.

Durante os anos 1800, todos os tipos de fazendeiros, pecuaristas e proprietários rurais que se espalhavam ao longo do rio Gallatin pararam em Gallatin Gateway enquanto iam e voltavam de Bozeman.

You have to pay too much attn to the app while driving its dangerous. Many locations were missed/skipped for no apparent reason and was very frustrating. The app doesn’t keep the phone screen on so you’re always having to tap the screen. The lack of CarPlay integration makes it dangerous. The navigation isn’t always positioned to keep your driving location always up. It kept asking to recenter constantly and the content wasn’t that great.
I’m really sorry to hear that your experience felt frustrating and distracting—that’s not how my tour is designed to work. You don’t need to pay much attention to the app while driving. Once you start at the recommended starting point, the audio plays automatically and guides you along the route. It’s important to begin there and follow the route so stops aren’t skipped or missed. After starting, there should be no need to keep tapping the screen. I’d like to understand—did this issue happen throughout the entire tour? I also appreciate you mentioning CarPlay. Currently, full in-app map display and navigation aren’t supported on Apple CarPlay. The good news is that CarPlay integration, including navigation features, will be live soon, and my team is actively working on it. We did the tour with 4 of us family, 2 of whom have lived in the area for 2 years, and we all learned a lot about the area. We found that some times the timing of the information didn’t match up exactly when we met the site. We enjoyed the tour and felt it was worthwhile and a good way to spend the time on a 2 hour drive. We’ll do it again sometime.

Things I liked: telling the history of the area covered, how the mountain ranges and peaks got their names. Learning about the families and people who settled the area. Things I didn't care for much: when you encourage stops along the tour, be sure to warn the travelers that in Big Sky, parking the browse the shops in "Town Center" is limited and it could take awhile to find a spot and that drivers there are extremely impatient. Things I didn't like at all: the environmentalist view that was a one-sided presentation...the narrator mentioned frequently how many billions of years it took to form the area geologically...and climate change is now destroying the world like yesterday this happened...what makes them think this isn't another "era" that is occurring...the long time volcano eruptions was mentioned....AND FINALLY, the sob story about the ranchers in Wyoming who view wolves as evil...My family also raises cattle, in another state and I don't care what predator it is a wolf, a bear, a mountain, a coyote...to see a pregnant cow, baby calf and any animal that is in my care suffer at the mouths of predators is disgusting...Present BOTH sides of this narrative. Glad this cost less than $20 otherwise I'd consider it a true waste of my time and funds!! I guess it was geared to the tourist audience and since I rarely travel just to travel and see something I've never seen well....I am not a true tourist!!

Having already explored the other Yellowstone tours, we decided to do the Big Sky Drive Tour. It didn't disappoint! We learned a lot about the Gallatin range and the drive itself was breathtaking with the stunning views. It was just beautiful.
