This was booked with 'tripadvisor' NO.. we did not enjoy 'Beat the heat' walking tour of the acropolis..as despite paying £246.26,..we were told a last minute extra payment, should have been made! We booked for this tour, when it said, only 10 tickets left and paid for 6 people to enjoy it. However , we were not aware, that paying for this did not include the actual ticket! When we qued up with the group, we found that a further ticket had to be purchased to the area! We had already paid £246.26! Of course, we were upset, we thought we'd paid for our tickets through trip advisor. When i looked up transaction details, i saw it was paid through viator on 10th june £246.26 for 6 people. Anyway, as we hoped not to miss out completely, we agreed to try purchase the afore mentioned, area tickets.. However, these were completely sold out! Therefore we were not able to go on this 'beat the heat' acroplis tour! I want a refund for this whole upsetting experience. It was very unclear when i purchased these tickets that a further payment had to be made! I paid £246.26 and got nothing! So. ' NO' We did not enjoy 'beat the heat' walking experience in Athens
Dear Sally, We're sorry to hear about your disappointment. However, we'd like to clarify that our tour description clearly states that Acropolis entrance tickets are not included and must be purchased separately. We made multiple attempts to contact you before your tour to inform you of this requirement and to assist you in securing the tickets. We sent reminders on 25 May, 5 June, and 11 June, as well as a WhatsApp message, but unfortunately we did not receive a response. By the day of your tour, the Acropolis entrance tickets had sold out, so it was no longer possible to join the tour. We understand how frustrating this was, but we did everything we could to communicate the ticket requirements in advance. We wish you the best in your future travels.
We took the late afternoon tour and had a great time. Our guide was an archaeologist, and she made all the locations come alive with the history and information she provided. Nothing rote about her interesting, enthusiastic commentary. Would happily take more of their tours.
Our guide Maria was excellent, however, the booking process was difficult and clunky. I repeatedly had to follow up to get responses and the booking confirmed which was frustrating and could have been avoided.
Voula was friendly with a good sense of humour. We had enough short breaks to rest on the way up. Would have preferred if the guides used a mic, as you would miss a few things being explained if you don't keep close. Overall it was fun and well timed.
Our guide Stelios brought the Acropolis to life! Deep knowledge in the mythology and history of the area, as well as current restoration efforts. It was crowded that day but Stelios navigated the area like an expert and the crowds had minimal impact on what we saw and learned. Stelios shared fascinating insights and stories that likely do not make it into standard guide books. Would highly recommend.
We had a perfect tour with Antonia this morning! Our group included two families with babies to grandparents included and Antonia did a fantastic job of setting the pace and checking on the group throughout to make sure everyone was accounted for and doing well with the climb. She provided just the right information (not too much, not too little) and we learned a ton along the way. The meeting spot was in an ideal location - very easy to find!
Great 90 minute tour with Maria! She was very knowledgeable and made for a great tour!
Wonderful tour, great tour guide, early before the crowds and heat got too much Not too long but learned a lot !!
Overall we were so happy to have booked this tour because we would not have experienced the Acropolis in this way on our own. Fun facts along the way and excellent closing remarks about architecture and Athens. The "beat the heat" sunset timing was perfect too for gorgeous photos and just a really cool experience once we finally got to the top! That being said, it just took a little too long to get there. We were there right on time at 4:30pm as the guide "leader" was arriving and started organizing the guides and we didn't start walking over until 4:55pm. That's too long to make people stand around. And I still don't understand why we needed to meet so far from the entrance?--just tell people to use the bathroom ahead of time and bring a water or meet at the 'water purchase' stop. Also, definitely did not need the Greek Mythology lesson at the base...that took way too long and clearly everyone in the group already had this background. Would have preferred more about the construction and history of the Parthenon and the actual place rather than stories about the gods that we already knew. Finally, one person in our group definitely was in tune to the anti-American undertone when our guide referenced the god of war as well--subtle, but not imagined and not necessary given that half the group were Americans...she lost her tip with that gratuitous comment, sorry!
Great experience with our guide "Alternative Athens". Smiling, passionate guide and very interesting information. We learned/ revised Greek mythology while visiting the Acropolis site. Mythology was the guiding thread of the visit, so nice entry into the subject and nice approach for this visit. We are delighted with these 2 hours of visit. Fantastic guide and very good command of French. Thank you.
