The reef is mostly dead, very few fish, and strong current. The guides were very nice and the lunch was good.
Hello Gloria, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We are glad to hear that you found our guides to be kind and that you enjoyed the lunch. The Puerto Morelos reef is part of a protected natural area, and conditions such as currents and marine life visibility can vary from day to day depending on weather and environmental factors. While we always hope guests experience abundant marine life, nature can sometimes be unpredictable. We appreciate your honest feedback and thank you again for joining the experience.
Well planned, well organized! Knowledgeable staff. Just enough time! Wear bathing suit under regular clothes and cahnge after.
Not well organize waited close to one hour before the activity started. They did not seem to know who was doing what.
We hit a day with a lot of wave activity, so the swimming was difficult for some people in our group. That greatly affected the distance we were able to cover. We were swimming in circles around the same areas. It was probably the best our guide could do in those circumstances. We would have preferred less time with the tequila tasting, and the tacos, and more time in the water. The amount of upselling is too much. The trip itself was expensive, and then they try to get you to upgrade right away for another $55 per person. I guess that is how everyone rolls here.
There was good communication with the company about pickup location and timing. They gave us a thorough overview of what to expect during the snorkeling experience. Unfortunately the snorkel tube they provided did not work for me (maybe too big?) and I kept swallowing salt water while using it. I've used other snorkel tubes before and they've been okay, so this was a first for me. They did not have any other options so I just repeatedly held my breath and dunked my head under throughout. There was also another guest who had the same issue and they just went back to the boat early. We did get to see a lot of fish and the coral was gorgeous but no turtles or rays. This is a protected area and they won't let you bring your own camera in. They do have someone who will swim around taking photos of you and the wildlife, and he took some amazing pictures. After snorkeling, we had a tequila tasting which introduced me to an incredible area of tequilas, followed by complementary tacos at a local restaurant. There was no time after eating to walk around and explore the city. I thought we would have time to, but the bus came to pick us up at around 2pm. This was the biggest reason I gave the tour a lower rating.
I have been wanting to do this since 2009. Now it's my birthday i got experience it for a short time but enjoyed it. My body would not let me go all the way but I got to see some of the coral. Enjoyed the part I was able to do and staff tried to catch me up but group was faster than me. Hopefully I come again but more in shape.
It was amazing. The guides were great. They really helped my little girl learn to snorkel. We saw a lot of sea life.
Very good value. Puerto Morales is the northern part of the National reef from Cancun down past Belize. the second largest coral reef to Australia's. Hotel pick up was timely. Kevin gave clear instructions about the snorkeling. then our group of 16 proceeded about 300 meters off the coast in 4 feet water (1.5 meters) and saw some great marine life, nurse sharp, schools of fish fan and brain coral, etc. 50 min in water was enough as the current was moderate and 40% of time you had to swim against the current. Post swim, Sol gave 40 min tequila tasting of six varieties. quite knowledgeable. then walked across the street to ocean side restaurant for 3 tacos paid by the company. had 30 minutes to walk around PM. and then head back to resorts in Cancun. Kevin the photographer really knows how to catch snorkeling shots of his clients. we really enjoyed the 5ish hour trip with them.
Including transfers activity is about 7 hours, time in water was around 45 mins. so need to expect that.
The trip was well organized and lots of fun. We were able to see some cool tropical fish, a small shark and a stingray. The reef in Puerto Morales is healthy and thriving. We were fed some yummy tacos for lunch afterwards. There was also time to walk around and check out some stores. Some advice the vendors can be high pressure so keep your purse strings tight and never pay full price.
