This cooking class was an absolute gem! A perfect activity for a visit to Costa Maya. Our group hired a short taxi ride right from the cruise port. The tacos, homemade tortillas, guacamole and pico de gallo were fresh and delicious! Cooking class was held in a small restaurant on the beach. Highly recommend this excursion!
We loved this excursion!! My husband and I traveled with our 2 boys (16 & 9). From the minute we got to Cafe Jaguar, the staff was so attentive and friendly. Our boys started off with oreo frappes that looked like they came from a magazine. My mango margarita was fantastic. Our cooking instructor was thorough, patient, and knowledgeable. The food was fantastic. We got to keep our aprons and were even given printed instructions/recipe and an ingredient to use at home. This was certainly worth the price and we hope to do it again in the future. Highly recommend!!!!
Stopped in Costa Maya as one of our ports on the MSC Seascape out of Galveston. We live near a beach in California so we wanted to do something that wasn’t so “beachy” (like snorkeling, fishing, etc.) and one of our friends found this spot on the internet. Super fun! We got there a little early and met the owner who is an ex-pat out of Canada and has been in Costa Maya for 10 years. We were greeted with bottles of cold water (hot outside!) and just talking to her before we started was great and she had a lot of info about the area. When it was time to start they brought out all of the ingredients for Pork Al Pastor and walked us through why each thing is used AND where we can get the ingredients in the states or even on Amazon. Simple ingredients, and easy to make - we put them on skewers so everybody’s was separate and cooked individually. Once the skewers were constructed we made pico de gallo, guacamole, AND homemade tortillas; each person pressed and cooked their own. By the time the pico, guac, and tortillas were done, the skewers were cooked and everything ready to eat. Beer or another drink was included (my wife had a mango margarita and said it was REALLY good). There was plenty to eat so come hungry and enjoy. We finished the meal with a shot of Tequila (also included) and the traditional Mexican toast "Arriba, abajo, al centro, pa' dentro"! Which sums it all up… Thank you for having us, we will be back! (p.s. it is right on the beach with all of the $20 massage tables so if you are going for that - wife and friend had one - there is still plenty of time for both and a couple hours on the water)
This is a great opportunity to learn how to make classic Mexican dishes from a very knowledgeable group of people who are very welcoming in a family atmosphere. Who could ask for anything more from an excursion … great people, great drink, and great food!
Had a wonderful experience and the food was delicious. I am celiac and they were very accommodating with gluten free. I’m ready to try making my own corn tortillas at home. Great drinks!!
GPS showed the wrong direction. Give yourself enough time for transportation. Good portions and tasty food. Fun afternoon
Amazing. The ladies here are incredible. The food we learned to make was so delicious. Highly recommend.
This is one of the best cooking tours in costa maya. It was the perfect small group activity. We learned to make pico, guacamole, and corn tortillas from scratch. The team was patient, kind and extremely welcoming. They adjusted to everyone’s pace. Highly recommend when cruising through costa maya.
Great experience with friends or family
It was a great experience making tacos and homemade tortillas. The restaurant was very clean and the chefs were very knowledgeable and explained everything very clearly. We had a delicious lunch with fresh ingredients.
