The was THE BEST cooking class we have ever had! We cook a lot as my wife was born in Italy. We were interested in the local traditional cuisine of the area . Yuka introduced us to so many unique ingredients local to area which were delicious! She carefully explained the origins of all the ingredients and how they are used in the dishes we made. She answered a LOT of questions we had in detail being a native of the area. She included some delicious side dishes and dessert for the meal which are equally unique and delicious. The venue is perfect for the whole experience. It’s a very well maintained old house which is now a restaurant specializing in the local cuisine. The personal setting with just us and her added to the experience. We would very highly recommend this cooking class for anyone seeking a genuine and unique experience in traditional Japanese cooking. Yuka is also a Sake sommelier so very knowledgeable in the brewing of Sake. Would give the class a 5+++++!
Thank you for your review! I truly enjoyed spending time with you both, and it was also very pleasure to have such great conversations about food culture. I'm so glad to hear that you enjoyed the class. I hope you'll try making various Japanese dishes at home as well!
My wife and I were in Japan for two weeks and Yuka's cooking class was the highlight of the trip for both of us. Yuka leads the class in her restaurant located in a traditional, 130-year-old Japanese home. Not only do you learn how to make three delicious dishes (we opted for the traditional cooking option, but you can also learn about making sushi), but Yuka provides great background on how different ingredients and practices developed over time based on the conditions in Nagano. After the class, we were served an amazing ~10-course lunch that included the things we made and other delicious traditional dishes -- all things we hadn't had before but loved. Plus, Yuka picked us up at the station and helped us get on the right train back to our hotel. If you're at all interested in food, you'll love this class -- and it's an amazing bargain.
Thank you for you review! It was a pleasure spending time with you both:) I believe that gaining a deeper understanding of Japanese ingredients and their histories can make Japanese cuisine even more enjoyable and flavorful!
