Such a cool experience! Was awesome watching real Sumo practice and experiencing serious training. Would strongly recommend doing! A great cultural experience. A couple things to note: there was not explanation about the sport, history, levels of wrestler, training regimen, etc. which would have been nice. No necessary, but I personally like history of. Also, there are no pictures allowed while they are training. Lastly, it was a solid 2 hours when we went. There are many rules for how you may watch/sit and no chairs (I had a back injury and the tour operator was able to accommodate, but that is not always the case). Strongly recommend! A worthwhile adventure! Would absolutely do it again!
It was a fantastic experience! The sumo practice felt very authentic and not touristy at all. The sumo practice lasted 2+ hours and we felt that we saw every sumo wrestler within this experience. The only negative thing was that at times the coach was sat right in front of us and so we couldn’t see what was going on. We had to wait for the coach to move to the side so we could see. Also the trip advisor lead seated us in a random order so my friend and I who are very short was sat at the back and found it hard to see. Apart from that, I would definitely recommend this experience!
Arrive early to have a place in front Very friendly and lively activity Photo at the end very appreciated
It's a fabulous experience but be prepared for total silence and 2 hours of sitting with your legs tucked. I recommended reading up on how the rekishi hierarchies work.
Was one of the best experiences to be so up close with the wrestlers. It is once in a lifetime experience.
It was an interesting experience, but it was a little difficult to see and we were a lot of people in little space. It wasn't exactly worth the money
From reading thought it was standing and could request a chair. It was sitting the whole time. Was a bit boring watching them do the same exercise for 25 minutes. Part of it was neat to watch. Zero explaination or places to ask questions. Those that got explainations were people who paid through different companies. Do not recommend.
Glad I went, it was amazing to see. The brute strength of the wrestlers is something you have to see in person. You sit to the side and observe and are quiet as a mouse. You sit on the floor, there are chairs but the view isn't very good if you sit in a chair. It was way further out of town then I realized when I did research, it took a Subway and then to trains and then about a 10-minute walk to get there. I'm glad I allowed 2 hours from central Tokyo. Try to get there a little early so you get a seat with an unobstructed view.
The performance of the practising sumo wrestlers was exactly as we expected. They were professional, serious and taught us how they learn in their actions. I was disappointed that we had no information from Viator on or about the event.
Thank you for your review. By missing information, do you mean the notice regarding the location of the event? As we always try to send an advance message to all of our guests, perhaps you made your reservation through another booking agent rather than us. Anyway, we are glad to hear that you enjoyed the morning practice itself. We wish you a safe and enjoyable stay in Japan!
This was a cool experience, and we really enjoyed watching the Sumo practice. Unfortunately it ran long, so we missed the photo session with the sumo wrestlers at the end. It was supposed to run 8:00-9:30, and we and most other guests left at 10:30 because we had other things to see, and no one told us how much longer it would go. A cool experience, but if you want to get photos don’t plan anything within a few hours after, in case it keeps going. Most things in Japan run exactly on time, but this one was wildly off.
Thank you for your feedback, and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused by the extended practice session. Unfortunately, the timing of sumo wrestlers' practice is unpredictable, which makes it difficult to estimate the exact end time. However, we understand how important this is and will ensure that in the future, we inform our guests beforehand that there may be a possibility of delays. We appreciate your understanding and are glad to hear that you still enjoyed the experience overall.
