A Basílica de Santa Maria degli Angeli está localizada a 4 km de Assis. No interior da Basílica encontra-se a Capela da Porciúncula; o lugar mais amado por São Francisco e onde Deus lhe concedeu graças especiais. Inicialmente, a Porciúncula era uma antiga capela, rodeada por uma pequena porção de floresta (daí talvez o nome) pertencente aos beneditinos do Mosteiro de S. Benedetto del Monte Subasio. Muito tempo abandonado, foi restaurado por Francesco que o alugou ao Abade Teobaldo. Após a morte do Santo, surgiram alguns edifícios permanentes em torno da igreja: o coro dos frades, vários pequenos oratórios e depois um pequeno convento. Na segunda metade de 1500, Pio V ordenou a construção de uma grande basílica que encerraria e protegeria a Porciúncula e acolheria as multidões de peregrinos que ali continuamente afluíam.
A Basílica de Santa Chiara é um edifício religioso, construído em estilo neo-românico, localizado em Assis. A basílica está entre as mais famosas da Itália e uma das mais belas da Úmbria. A igreja marca não só o centro histórico da cidade, mas também um local significativo do ponto de vista artístico e cultural. A Basílica de Santa Chiara foi construída pelos monges beneditinos, que tinham o desejo de homenagear Santa Chiara, nascida Agnese em 1194 e falecida em 13 de setembro de 1253. Atualmente, juntamente com a Porciúncula, o Eremo delle Carceri, a Chiesa Nuova e a Basílica de San Damiano, a Catedral de San Rufino e obviamente a Basílica de San Francesco, é um dos centros onde se concentra a peregrinação a Assis.
Esplêndida residência barroca com abóbadas com afrescos do início do século XVII, de pintores da Úmbria e da Toscana. É a Pinacoteca Comunale di Assisi, no seu interior há um notável grupo de afrescos medievais e renascentistas.
A Basílica de San Francesco d'Assisi, local que preserva os restos mortais do santo seráfico desde 1230, é um dos locais de culto mais importantes da Itália e do mundo. Em 2000, a basílica foi incluída na lista do património mundial da UNESCO. A primeira pedra da Basílica de São Francisco de Assis foi lançada em 16 de julho de 1228, apenas dois dias após a morte de Francisco e um dia após a sua proclamação santa pelo Papa Gregório IX. Segundo a tradição, foi o próprio Francisco quem indicou exatamente o local onde desejava ser sepultado. A igreja representa um dos pilares da difusão do gótico na Itália. Além de ser a sepultura de São Francisco, assumiu fundamental importância para o papado, que via na ordem franciscana uma grande aliada para estreitar os laços com as classes mais humildes e populares. A construção da basílica foi iniciada em 1228 pelo Papa Gregório IX e depois consagrada em 1253 pelo Papa Inocêncio IV.

A Cúpula de Orvieto é uma das mais belas catedrais italianas, uma obra-prima da arquitetura gótica do centro da Itália. Excellent! Tour assistant and driver were both very pleasant. On time departure. Beautiful drive. Tour guide Marco in Assisi was very thorough and excellent topic knowledge. Tour went long because he seemed to really enjoy what he does. Tour assistant pointed things out on the way, but also didn’t just talk at us the whole time. I cannot recommend the group at Welcome Italy enough for their day excursions. Cars are very clean and comfortable. We had paid for a small group tour but it ended up being only us which made the tour even more personal.

A full day of visits to Orvieto and Assisi, with an excellent pair: Elisabeth and Giuseppe, and a special guide in Assisi, Marco. My husband and I they really enjoyed the four Basilica tour with Dina as our tour guide and her colleague Stefano. Dina was very professional and knowledgeable all the subject matters. She gave us time to explore and pray and attend Mass at the Basilicas. It was truly a magnificent experience and a full day learning more about the history of our faith. Welcome Italy was such a great way for my wife and I to experience a full trip in Rome. We actually had three separate excursions with them. First we went to Castel Gandolfo and Nemi. After a full three days in Rome, this was such a quiet and relaxing day. Antoinetta was so personable and made us feel at home, and our driver Pietro was great. The second day we traveled with Marie and Pino to Orvieto and Assisi. Again, both were professional and it felt like we were traveling with old friends by the end of the day. Our third day we traveled with Cascia and Spoleto. Another day of being immersed with a rich understanding of the history thanks to our guide, Juliana, and driver Flavio. Disclaimer here… my wife and I are Catholic, and from that perspective we felt so close to the history of the church. The guides did a great job of understanding that and catering to it each day. Their recommendations on restaurants while traveling were top notch as well. I cannot say enough good things about the days we spent with Welcome Italy and will absolutely be using their services on our next trip to Italy!
