O Golfo de Corinto no Mar Jônico é conectado pelo Canal de Corinto. Ele divide o Peloponeso do continente grego cortando o pequeno Istmo de Corinto, o que pode transformar a península em uma ilha. Sem eclusas, o canal foi escavado no istmo ao nível do mar. Muitos navios modernos não conseguem atravessá-lo, pois ele tem apenas 21,4 metros (70 pés) de largura na base e 6,4 quilômetros (4 km) de comprimento. As vistas do istmo de Corinto são melhores vistas de uma altura, onde você também pode apreciar as paredes de calcário da cidade e observar os barcos navegando no canal abaixo.
Olímpia era um lugar sagrado que atraía adoradores de todo o mundo antigo. A partir do século VIII a.C., as celebrações religiosas em Olímpia tornaram-se associadas à Trégua Olímpica Sagrada, honrada em todo o mundo grego após um acordo entre o espartano Licurgo e o rei de Élis, Ífito. No século V a.C., Olímpia se tornou um lugar onde as ideias eram espalhadas, com dezenas de pensadores e indivíduos influentes vindo aqui para trocar e passar seus conhecimentos e ideias.
O Museu Arqueológico de Olímpia é um dos principais museus da Grécia, localizado em Olímpia. É supervisionado pelo Ministério da Cultura e Esportes e, desde 2009, é dirigido por Georgia Chatzi. Quando o edifício original foi concluído e inaugurado em 1882, foi o primeiro museu na Grécia fora de Atenas. O museu abriga descobertas da área circundante, incluindo o local dos Jogos Olímpicos Antigos. A coleção inclui objetos produzidos e usados na área desde a pré-história até o tempo sob o domínio romano. As principais peças do museu são Hermes e o Infante Dionísio (atribuído a Praxíteles), alguns objetos do Templo de Zeus, a Nike de Paionios, bem como uma oenochoe que pertenceu a Fídias. A extensão de sua coleção de bronze a torna uma das mais importantes do mundo.
O sítio arqueológico continha mais de 70 edifícios significativos, e ruínas de muitos deles sobreviveram. De interesse especial para os gregos de todos os tempos é o Pelopion, o túmulo do rei quase mítico, ancestral dos Atreidas, os dois reis que lideraram seus domínios para a guerra contra Troia. O Peloponeso recebeu o nome de Pelops. O túmulo sugere que ele pode não ter sido totalmente mítico.

Yiannis was an amazing guide/driver, we had a great time and the drive to Olympia so really didn't feel long. Both, Corinth Channel and Olympia are worth seeing. The time I had there also was enough to get a good impression of each of these places without the feeling of being in a hurry. After all I definitely can recommend the trip.

The Corinth Canal is a very brief stop but it is worth seeing how deep of a canal was built. Pretty impressive. Ancient Olympia has a very nice museum and ruins of the Olympic village. There was less in the Olympic Village than we expected but it was worth going to as you can still see the outlines of the buildings and the race track.
