Fantastic Tour of Ancient Corinth, Mycenae, & snorkeling in The Sunken City! A Highlight of our trip to Greece!

On Saturday, June 20th, 2026, my family and I took the Ancient Corinth, Mycenae & Snorkeling in Sunken City Tour and had an absolutely lovely day! Our tour guide, Anastasios, was wonderful, and I was so grateful for how it all turned out. Originally, my family and I had booked, well in advance, the Athens: Epidaurus, Sunken city & Aegina/Aponisos Day Cruise, but the tour was canceled the day before because the minimum number of participants required had not been reached. Therefore, the second-to-last day of our trip was suddenly open with nothing planned, and overall, our family of 5 was very disappointed, as we were all really looking forward to seeing the Sunken City after watching a great review about it on YouTube. So I began to search for tours that might still include a trip to the Sunken City and could accommodate a private family tour. In the end, I think this tour ended up being even BETTER than the tour that we had originally planned. Because I was fearful of booking another tour only to have it canceled at the last minute, I reached out directly via private message and was quickly connected with Anastasios on Get Your Guide. I explained the situation and outlined everything our family would still like to see before leaving Athens. Anastasios was fantastic and explained that we could certainly still book the tour for the next day, and then he even offered (for an additional small fee) to pick us up and drop us off at our hotel, as we were staying outside of the zone that included hotel pick up and drop off (we were staying in Vouligameni). This was the best news because getting our two children to wake up early is never easy. :) Our trip began with a one-and-a-half-hour drive to the Corinth Canal. Along the way, Anastasios, our tour guide, gave us a brief history of Athens and an overview of the places and sights we would see that day. Although there was a microphone in the van, at times it was a little hard to hear what was being said, so make sure to ask Anastasios to turn up the volume. At the canal, we were able to exit the van, stop for a bathroom break and snacks, and then walk across the canal and take some pictures. There is also a small museum there that provides visitors with more information about the canal, Greece in general, and other sites to explore. A short drive later, we arrived in Ancient Corinth! Here we were able to explore the archaeological site and museum. Thankfully, we had cash on us because their credit card machine was down. For three adults and two children, it cost us 60 euros. Originally, we had planned to stay only about an hour, but there was a lot to read and see, and we ended up staying longer, close to an hour and a half. Here, we were also able to visit the temple of Apollo. I wish we had been able to stay longer and take an additional biblical tour here in Ancient Corinth. Unfortunately, the museum presents only a historical perspective, with little information about Paul the Apostle and his ministry. However, there are some books for sale in the museum with more information on this topic. About an hour later, we arrived in Mycenae. Anastasios provided us with a pamphlet that gave us a more in-depth guide to the sites we were about to see. Note: if you have time to read the Iliad by Homer prior to visiting Mycenae, it is recommended, as there are some references to it on the tour. Here we also had to pay an entrance fee, and I think it was also around 60 euros. Luckily, at this stop, the credit machine worked at both the entrance and the snack shop. Here we were able to see the Lions Gate and also explore the museum. It is a very large site, one where you could spend a few hours for sure, but we decided to keep it to about 30 minutes. A very short ride later, maybe 10 minutes max, we went to see the Tholos tombs. This was a real sight, leaving us all marveling at how something so large was constructed so well, so very long ago. After this, Anastasios gave us the option to go and see the Ancient Theater of Epidaurus or go straight to the Sunken City. As we were really excited to go snorkeling and see the Sunken City, we decided to skip the theater, but I would still definitely like to check it out next time! On the way home, we saw many cars heading to the theater for a concert being held there that evening. The drive to Epidaurus took maybe about another 30 minutes and was quite winding but also beautiful with mountain scenery. When we eventually arrived at Epidaurus and the Sunken City, my heart was immediately taken aback by the beauty! The water was so blue, the surrounding mountains so green, and the area felt private-a real getaway! Anastasios was greeted kindly by the owners of a small restaurant called Athina ecofarm, who set up a table for us to have a late lunch right there on the beach! This quiet, intimate lunch with my family on the beach was definitely one of the highlights of our trip to Greece! The food was also fresh and delicious! Here you can also pay by credit card or in cash. The restaurant also has a small shop where you can buy food-based souvenirs. I chose to take home some fresh, dried Thyme. After eating, my kids and I were excited to go snorkeling and explore the ruins. The main thing at this point that I wish I had brought with me were beach shoes, as the beach is very rocky. However, the three of us managed to get to the site despite a bit of foot pain and a slow start due to the slipperiness of some rocks. The water was quite warm and lovely for swimming and snorkeling, considerably warmer than the water we experienced the day prior at Astir Beach in Vougliameni. The funny part was that the Sunken City itself did not live up to my expectations. It was cool to see some ruins from the water's surface, but I did not have a guide to tell me what I was looking at, so I was left a little disappointed. The water was not as deep as I had originally imagined, which was great since I was snorkeling with my two kids. Although the tour included snorkeling masks, we did not have any life jackets. All that said, I am so glad that we did this, and I would actually do it again! Afterward, Anastasios was so kind as to drive us back to our hotel in Vougliameni, which took about two and a half hours (perhaps even a little more due to Saturday evening traffic). If you enjoy adventure and a long day of touring, learning about ancient Greek history, beautiful views, snorkeling, and great food, I highly recommend this tour! Thank you again, Anastasios, for being so accommodating, especially at the last minute, and for creating such a beautiful and memorable day for our family! We are all truly very grateful to you and hope to return to Greece again soon!!! You are THE BEST!!

The BEST day in Greece!!!

This day was the absolute highlight of our stay in Greece. Anastacios...hands down THE BEST tour guide for this adventure. He is well knowledgeable of the history of the locations we visited. It is worth EVERY penny to take the private tour. We were on a schedule but it was flexible. He allowed us the time we needed at each location and did not rush us to get to the next spot. We enjoyed a lovely dinner at the sunken city location just after we swam. It was a perfect day. And Erin, his beautiful tour partner and our new friend was an added bonus!!! When we come back, we will be contacting Anastacios again. On the way home we were blessed with a gorgeous perfect double rainbow!!!

Recommended this trip!!

This trip is highly recommended!! It was so nice to see more of Greece than just Athens. What a great day we had! Anastasios picked us up and first we stopped at the canal of Corinth. Along the way Anastasios told all sorts of things about Greek history, very interesting! The 2nd stop was in Nafplio. Here we walked through the town. After this we stopped at places where we could take beautiful pictures. The 3rd stop was at the theatre of Epidaurus. Here we could look around as long as we wanted. Eventually we went to the beach. Anastasios had all snorkeling gear and towels with him. Even at the end of October the water was still warm enough. At the beach we also had lunch. Anastasios is very flexible. At our request we left early for Athens, on the way we stopped to see the sunset. Anastasios drove especially for us to a beautiful place. After a nice day we were dropped off at the door again.

Fun trip and the guide was terrific.

We had a knowledgeable guide who shared Greek history and stories as we drove to various stops. He had water and snacks, too, which were a nice touch. Worth the time to take this trip.

Anastasios is GREAT! Book a tour, you'll be happy you did

Do yourself a favor-- book a tour with Anastasios!!! We spent two full days with him touring Delphi and some surrounding sites, and also the Peloponnesian peninsula. He was absolutely great from start to finish.  He was punctual and arrived with drinks and breakfast treats (delicious!!). His van was clean and comfortable. He made a point of asking us if the music and temperature were comfortable. And as a tour guide, he was absolutely fantastic-- he gave us very good background information on the sites we visited, told us fun and interesting anecdotes you could only get from a local, never rushed us, and brought us to some great restaurants. His pace for each site was perfect- we never felt rushed and always felt ready for the next spot. Twice he did drop us off and then pick us up at different locations to allow us a loverly walk (Nafplio cliff walk and Arachova) which was very nice. We did pay the extra to have the entire van tour for ourselves both days, just my wife and I and our 2 kids, which was very nice and gave us extra room and a little more flexibility. We saw other groups with their company and they seemed to be having a great time.  Having Anastasios as a tour guide truly was one of the highlights of our 2 weeks in Greece. Don't hesitate to book with his company- you will be happy you did!!
