Aucke gave us a fantastic 1.5 hour tour of the Van Gogh collection. He was extremely knowledgeable and had experience working at the museum as an art historian. Understanding the different stages in Van Gogh’s life, his experiences, and his state of mind evident in his letters, gave the paintings an extra dimension. Thanks Aucke!
I wrote a review of our Van Gogh tour guide experience after experiencing customer service challenges with one of the company’s representatives. And I just wanted to say that this company took steps to make the situation right and it is rare that you see that happen. As I stated in my review, the guide we had was excellent and we ultimately enjoyed the delayed tour. I appreciated their taking responsibility for an unfortunate situation and making it right in the end.
Our tour guide was excellent! Fannie is an art historian, and she was extremely knowledgeable, provided a great tour of theVan Gogh Museum, while focusing on the most important paintings. She is animated, interesting, and told us fascinating stories about Vincent‘s life. Highly recommend!
Aucke was amazing. As an artist himself, he guided us with an almost analytical point of view, yet deep empathy and admiration towards Van Gogh. At one point, Vincent’s story touched me so much, I teared up a bit. We learnt so much during this tour. It’s a completely different experience from 20 years ago when I first visited here with an audio tour. This tour has dimension, it’s almost like watching Van Gogh’s documentary. Highly recommend!
Fannie was very passionate and very knowledgeable on the subject. She was able to provide vivid context to each stage of Van Goghs life, enhancing our understanding and appreciation of the artworks. She was also very friendly and approachable, keeping the session engaging and entertaining. We enjoyed the tour very much. Would recommend.
Titia was an amazing tour guide. I felt like we learned so much more in 90 minutes on this tour than if we wandered the museum for 3 or more hours on our own. We learned the story of Vincent the person and the artist as told through the paintings of his life. It was fascinating to see the progression of his art as he went through life changes. And the story of how "Vincent Van Gogh" the famous artist came to be is a heartwarming story of a family who never gave up on Vincent. Hearing his life play out against the paintings brings new meaning to the work. And now understanding the pigments and changes in the artwork brings new meaning and understanding to why they look as they do. If you want to learn more than just what a digtal audio guide will tell you, book this tour. Well worth the time.
Fannie was extremely knowledgeable and so enthusiastic. She was a wonderful guide and we could have listened to her all day.
Our tour guide Camilla was fabulous! We enjoyed having a private tour. She was so knowledgeable giving us facts I would have never have known. Our 2 1/2 hour tour was so interesting that it flew by. She took us chronologically through Van Gogh’s life and works. If you want a great tour, book this one! We travel a lot and this was one of the best and well worth the many and experience of having a small group and excellent guide!
Our tour guide, Fanny was an amazing guided, giving us history of Van Gogh as well as the intricacy and the technique of his paintings. She was very vivacious and illustrative. of the various time periods of Vincent’s life. She was very knowledgeable of each of the paintings. She made the tour very fun. Can’t highly recommend anyone enough as Fanny.
We had a mixed experience with this company, which is why I have given them a poor rating. On the morning of our scheduled 10AM tour around 8:00, we received an email telling us to meet our guide at 10:00 at the Van Gogh museum. We were there well before the meeting time. Shortly before 10:00, a woman came up to us on a bike and told us that the company had been trying to call me to tell us the tour had been moved to 11AM. I had no missed phone calls from the company. She then threatened to cancel the tour if we did not agree to the time change. We reluctantly agreed to the changed time just minutes before our 10:00 tour was supposed to start. She rode off with no apology for the schedule mixup and was rather rude during the entire exchange, acting as if this schedule change was our fault. I later looked through my email messages, which is a terrible way to communicate if you expect immediate read receipt by the recipient, and noted that I had two additional emails from the company…one received 18 minutes before our 10:00 start time telling us the tour had been moved to 11:00. And one asking if my phone number was listed correctly, which is was, received 12 minutes before our tour time. I had no missed calls from the company so it appears that they never tried to call, but were simply trying to cover their lack of communication with us. It was a very unfortunate start to the tour as we lost our lunch spot afterwards because of the time change. I wrote to the company afterwards to tell them about this experience as opposed to immediately posting a bad review of them because despite the rude woman from the company and despite the extremely late communication on the change in the tour time and the lack of a phone call or text when the company had the correct phone number, we liked the guide who did a nice job of recovering from a very bad start to this tour. I subsequently wrote to the company asking for consideration of an extending a discount for this tour given the rudeness of the initial staff, lack of communication and inconvenience of the delayed tour. They never bothered to respond. So my advice is to be careful when booking with this company....their customer service is lacking.
Dear Laura, I'm so sorry for what happened with your tour on May 23rd. Your frustration is completely understandable, and I want to put it right. My name is Florentine, and I'm the owner of Amor Artium, a very small company of young art historians. What happened that day is exactly the kind of thing we work hardest to avoid, and I'm sorry it happened this way, the museum changed the starting time of our tour last minute to avoid overcrowdedness. We did try to reach you by phone, even today! But we can not get though. I also know you missed your lunch because of this, which only adds to how disappointing the whole experience must have been. We have transferred your whole payment back, this is truly not how we operate and we are extremely dedicated to providing the best tours and experiences. I completely understand the review, but if, once this is resolved, you ever felt it no longer reflected your overall impression of us, that would mean a very great deal to our small company. With my sincere apologies, Florentine
