My husband and I went to visit Lydia and her family for lunch. What a fabulous experience. Such wonderful hospitality and a great way to experience local puglian cuisine and find out about their culture, family, the town of Otranto. We had fun cooking with Lydia in the kitchen and she had prepared many other dishes before we arrived so when we sat down to eat the food just kept coming. It was a delight. Everythingcwas from scratch even the wine, lemoncelloand sambuca which was amazing. We would recommend it to all. We loved the afternoon and our time with Ulio and Ramona too. Thanks so much.
We had a wonderful and memorable lunch visit with Nonna Lidia and her family. She prepared every delicious dish and served our lunch under the trees in the garden. We even toasted with her homemade limoncello to an unforgettable afternoon.
Superb, very friendly people, great food and fine experience! You must have experienced this 👍 We were very curious and excited however this has surpassed everything!
We had a warm and friendly experience in Lidia’s home. We were involved in making 4 dishes but ate many more! Lidia and her friends are very passionate about Pugliese cuisine and wine. It’s important to them that tradition is kept alive and recipes are true to the old values. It was a wonderful night!
It was the best experience! I got to not only learn how to make amazing food, I also got to sit down with a family and share food and make new friends with them. They were extremely welcoming and sharing. I ate a ton of food and it has been the highlight of my vacation. They even sent me off with leftovers. You cannot get this kind of experience except in a house with terrific people.
THis was an experience for sure! The only critizism I have is the day of I received a text and it had "meeting place" as a piazza, not the address of the host. We waited for a while then I remembered I copied down the address I received back in the states. Took us another 10 minutes to find it but it was so charming! The host was a "Mama" and she had her son and daughter in law helping. We sat, my hub and my girlfriend, at the kitchen table as she showed us how to make tiramisu as that had to chill. Then it was orecchietti making time! I tried but Mama had it down! Her's were so perfect! She didn't speak English but the son did and he was a great host also. We then went out to their patio covered with beautiful trees. It was a very pleasant night, we had a dry rose to start, then a more "homemade" red, pretty strong, lol. It was not a fast dinner, after that, she had a pizza dough rising for 24 hours, she fried that after she fried the eggplant for parmigianne. Goodness did we eat. She explained that she fried the eggplant and dough in sunflower oil and not olive oil. She also assembled the eggplant parm and used mortedella and mozzerella with the sauce. We were getting pretty stuffed, I think there was also going to be a meat course but we surrendered and said just the orrecchiette please! Before that was the eggplant along with other tidbits to eat. Then finally the tiramisu! They gave us a doggy bag of that and on our way very full! It was a full 3 hours but found out it was very close to our hotel. I would recommend this tour. The house they lived in was owned by them for over 200 years!
We enjoyed a delicious meal with our Cesarina Lidia, Elio and Ramona last evening in their home. They were kind, generous and very hospitable. We started with an antipasto, including croquettes that we helped make. Lidia had us making Orecchiette and Maccheroni pasta. Elio had gone fishing earlier and we enjoyed grilled sea bass after our pasta. The finale was tiramisu, the best I have tasted, and limoncello! It was a wonderful evening.
