An enjoyable experience

We would recommend this tour. It was really interesting and we learnt a lot about Bristol generally and especially in relation to the Second World War. Our Guide was excellent - very good value.

Fascinating tour at the heart of Bristol’s old city

Really great experience! The walking is minimal, just a little wander around the market area but that was good for my elderly grandad. Even though we covered a small area there was so much to learn. The guide pointed out loads of fascinating stuff I have been walking past without noticing for years! Teresa was brilliant with her facts and the way she brought theatre to her story telling. Highly enjoyable! The collection of historical items was also brilliant. My only constructive criticism is that it would have been good to have had 5-10mins at the end, after the tour had finished, to look at the many artefacts and photos ourselves. But the guide talked us through loads of them and the stories behind them. An excellent tour and brilliant value for money, highly recommend!

Book this tour.

Interesting, atmospheric and engaging. Owen makes the history very present and easy to place yourself in the time. It was very emotive to see the gas masks and hoods for children. Sadly, didn't meet Margaret the ghost but beware of the random fan! St Nics above ground is also a brilliant place to spend some time.

Highly recommended! Must do!

Can’t recommend this highly enough. If you’re a resident of Bristol, or even if you are a visitor, you should definitely do it! You will learn so much about the Blitz, WW2 in Bristol, the wider wartime history of the city and much more besides. The tour starts outside the Corn Exchange and tours the immediate area. You will learn so much about the evolution of this central part of the city, details will be highlighted that you never noticed and some of Bristol’s links to the slave trade are also unpacked. Once inside the shelter, be prepared to experience the stark reality of what sheltering for your life must’ve felt like whilst incendiaries and explosives fell overheard. The guides have collected a remarkable stock of local and national WW2 artefacts and their knowledge knows no bounds. If Duncan is your guide, you are in for a treat and a half! His passion for this topic is unrivalled and it is clear that he has put so much work into the tour. I highly recommend the tour for groups, singles, friends, couples or anyone who wants to learn more.

Bristol tour

Really glad we did this tour. Our guide’s (Faye) enthusiasm and knowledge of Bristol was outstanding…especially, in the air raid shelter. We had no idea the impact “the blitz” had on this area

Something different

Great experience. Would have been a little cheaper if booked direct. Good length of visit. Fay, our guide, was enthusiastic and very knowledgeable.

Fascinating view of the impact of the Blitz; above and below ground

A fascinating tour, with plenty of visuals to help imagine what Bristol was like prior to the Blitz and ultimately after the chaos of the bombing ended. Duncan our tour guide was passionate and knowledgeable- sharing firsthand accounts and historical facts to paint an intricate experience of life during the Blitz, and what waiting it out in an air raid shelter would have actually been like. Really recommend!

Bristol air raid tour

We toured the air raid shelters below St Nicholas Market on hot day in Bristol. It was a very informative tour with a great guide, Owen. He is very passionate and involved in this tour/museum work in progress. The group has collected tons of memorabilia and artifacts relating to the blitz bombings of Bristol. The tour shows the human side as well as the historical side of the bombings. Unfortunately for us Margaret stayed quiet for most of the tour. Keep up the good work!
