Apollonia, por outro lado, é uma das cidades antigas mais importantes, ponto de partida da famosa estrada romana 'Via Egnatia'. Após o café da manhã no hotel, partimos para Berat, um Patrimônio Mundial da UNESCO. Berat tem dois bairros antigos, Gorica e Mangalem. Em 1417, a cidade foi ocupada pelos turcos, que construíram algumas mesquitas na área abaixo do antigo castelo da cidade. Berat está situado no sopé da montanha Tomorri e às margens do rio Osum. Construído de branco em uma encosta verde com o rio a seus pés, oferece uma vista impressionante assim que se torna visível. É famosa por suas casas caiadas de branco, com suas muitas janelas que parecem ter sido construídas umas sobre as outras, que lhe dão o apelido de “cidade de mil e uma janelas”. Mantém um estilo único de arquitetura, com ruas estreitas e pavimentadas em pedra
Berat, um Patrimônio Mundial da UNESCO. Sendo mais de 2400 anos Berat, é uma das cidades mais atraentes da Albânia. Fundada no século III aC por uma tribo da Ilíria no centro da Albânia com um castelo protetor, era conhecida como a cidade fortificada de Antipatrea. O castelo é o único na Albânia que ainda tem casas e habitantes dentro de suas muralhas, vivendo sua vida cotidiana exatamente no mesmo lugar que seus antecessores fizeram séculos atrás. Visitaremos o castelo, a Igreja de Santa Maria, transformada no Museu Onufri, que abriga uma coleção incrivelmente diversa de ícones e duas outras igrejas não abertas ao público. Onufri, cujo nome foi dado a este museu de ícones, foi um mestre pintor albanês do século XVI, que pintou muitos ícones de igrejas na Albânia e na Grécia e é famoso por sua cor vermelha em homenagem a ele. Berat também é famoso, pois duas das bíblias mais antigas “Novo Testamento”, uma do século VI e uma do século IX dC, foram encontradas aqui. O almoço pode ser especial em uma casa tradicional dentro do castelo administrada por um casal local.
Após o almoço, partimos para a antiga cidade de Apollonia, um dos mais importantes centros antigos da época romana, na famosa Via Egnatia. O famoso orador romano Cícero, surpreendido pela beleza de Apolônia, nomeou-o em suas Filipinas, “magna urbs et gravis” - uma cidade grande e importante. Fundada no século VII aC, pelos colonos gregos de Corinto e Corcyra, a cidade antiga está localizada 11 km a oeste da cidade de Fier. Escavações arqueológicas revelaram que Apolônia alcançou seu zênite nos séculos IV a III a.C. No primeiro século a.C., Otaviano Augusto estudou filosofia lá até ouvir notícias do assassinato de César no Senado e se tornar o próximo imperador. Visite a cidade e um mosteiro ortodoxo transformado em museu arqueológico. Temos a possibilidade de desfrutar de um belo pôr do sol no topo da colina, depois voltamos para Tirana. Our guide Jetmir picked us up very punctually at our hotel. Prior to the day of the trip, we had written communication via Whatsapp and I really appreciated the company answering our questions and making suggestions. They are super accomodating for the pickup, not only within Tirana but also further. Our guide made our day interesting and rich in explanations. The visits were great and he picked a delicious traditional albanian restaurant for lunch. Jetmir took time to answer all our questions, always in a friendly and good mood. Amazing! Had a tour with Edi whose English and local knowledge was amazing. Berat and Apollonia are beautiful and well worth the visit. I was a solo Traveller and there was another solo Traveller as well and we were lucky it was a small group. Edi answered all questions and was easy to engage with conversation, as well as volunteering to take lots of photos. Berat is stunning both the castle and city. Views from the castle are perfect. Apollonia we had a Specialist Guide who was able to talk us through the history and story of the site in great detail. The monastery is also beautiful and you have free time to look around and explore. The company keep you updated before you leave and timings and the plans for the fay are shared on the route out. Would have loved to have time to explore more of Berat but we were able to squeeze onto a wine tasting at Çobo wines which made the trip even better! Highly recommend.
