Cooking Class Review: Not Recommended

Sadly, I cannot recommend this class to anyone. My experience was extremely poor and underwhelming. Despite the listing promising a maximum of 10 travelers, there were actually about 20 people in a small, crowded room with only one instructor. Although we booked an English-spoken class via Viator and specified we didn't speak German, 95% of the instruction was in German. The instructor ignored the 5 English-only speakers to cater to the one German-only speaking guest in the room, despite the fact that everyone else could speak both English and German. We were left with brief, vague English summaries after minutes of German explanation. We made it known that we couldn't understand, but we were ignored, neglected and felt completely excluded as nothing changed. The "cooking" portion of the class was also frustrating. There was insufficient equipment with only 3 working pans for 21 people. Many participants simply gave up trying to get involved because of this. Because 95% of the instructions were in German, we had to visually copy others whilst recieving vague/minimal instruction in English. The instructor would also seemingly speak about the Kaiserschmarrn we were cooking to the rest of the class, as an example of what we were doing wrong, in German of course, so we could not understand it or rectify it which felt humiliating. I have taken many cooking classes worldwide, and this was by far the worst. The teaching was terrible, but being actively excluded and made to feel like we didn't belong in the experience we equally paid for was the most appalling part.

Good Chef, Poor Organization – More Demo Than Workshop or Cooking Class

At the entrance, guests receive one complimentary beverage of their choice; any additional drinks must be purchased. The staff, unfortunately, were not very welcoming, and I felt more like an unwanted tourist than a guest. After receiving our drinks, the workshop began. There were four cooking stations for about twenty participants, so only those who reached a station could cook while the rest observed. The chef leading the session was knowledgeable and entertaining, sharing interesting stories about the dish’s origin. When the cooking was done, the chef served everyone a generous portion and collected emails to send the recipe. We ate, enjoyed the meal, and then headed home. What could be improved: A warmer, more engaging welcome from the staff would create a better first impression. Fewer participants or more cooking stations would allow everyone to take part actively instead of just watching. A clearer structure for participation and communication before the event would help manage expectations. Overall, it was an interesting experience with a talented chef, but the lack of personal engagement and limited participation made it feel more like a demonstration than a true hands-on workshop.

delicious experience

The small group allowed for easy participation. Clear directions on techniques. It was easy to attend with children as the class was not long. SO delicious and fun for the family.

Excellent

The experience was really good, at the beginning we were proposed soft drinks or glass of local wine. Cheef was fluent in both English and German speaking with engagement about history of region and dish. Of course all cooking details were presented very good and joyful. The restaurant has Michaeline star and despite the fact it's little hidden you can feel it from the very beginning. I'm not huge a fan of deserts nor Austrian traditional cooking, but this experience was really good and truthfully I can recommend this to anyone who wants to spend nice time and have good memories from visitng Vienna. This event made me like it much more than I could have expected.

It was very enjoyable and...

It was very enjoyable and the chef is very charismatic. Don't eat anything before you go to leave room for your creation

Sweet experience

We enjoyed it. There were 12 folks in our group, and the kitchen was a bit small for us all, but overall it was a friendly and funny experience.
