Our guide was passionate about history and places, with a good knowledge of the Italian language; the tour of the various sites of ancient Carthage and the following visit to Sidi Bou Said with a stop for tea / coffee and leisure are always pleasant and well structured, highly recommended even for the half day
Good experience but very disappointed by the practice of the guide: Very friendly and exciting guide. Calm and attentive. Very discreet driver, extremely pleasant car. Overall experience very pleasant but 2 points darken the picture and this concerns the money: 125 euros, certainly booked at the last moment is expensive for 3 hours. You will find cheaper with meals etc 2nd point that is most damaging to me, is that during the visit of sidi bou Said, the guide will quickly take you to a shop of handmade products (right or not?) and this shop offers you simply mind-blowing prices! (Visit the village very short. Nice but few views of the village itself. Do not expect to be able to see all the points seen on Google for example) In short, a guide is there to guide, and therefore take his clients to cheap places, and not to his friend who takes advantage of it to charge exorbitant prices, in front of the complicit guide. Unfortunately, it's gangrene in this town. And thinking of taking a guide to escape these practices, this gentleman consciously takes us there with the pretext of a "super address". The corner of the connoisseur being in fact a tourist catch (without taking anything away from the quality of the products found there, some being visually handmade) but not letting us see the other shops (perhaps of poor quality for the moment?) Anyway, really mixed. But past this aspect, very good historical experience.
Great tour if you are short on time and want to see Carthage and Sidi Bousaid The guide was very knowledgeable and professional and driver was always prompt. Highly recommend!
The guide was extremely knowledgeable and interesting. Very flexible and supporting. All great indeed!
My low rating is based on the fact that the tour was NOT private as advertised and offered and paid for. I specifically booked/paid for a private tour, which was later confirmed in my email booking receipt and verbally by Viator/TripAdvisor representatives. The night before the tour, the Tunisian 'AOUES Travel and Events'* tour company representative contacted me to let me know the tour would NOT be private; he explained that due to staffing issues, 4 Spanish-speaking travellers would be joining my private tour. He further explained that since I could no longer receive a refund if I cancelled, since it was less than 24 hours before the start of the tour, I could reschedule for another day... Unbelievable, the tour company's problem suddenly becomes my problem. Since my schedule was full, I had to take the group tour with the Spanish-speaking travellers. In the end, 7 Spanish-speaking individuals joined the tour. Time was wasted picking up one set of travellers. The guide tried to keep me in the loop in English; however, an enormous amount of tour time was devoted to the Spanish-speaking travellers. Note, however, that the actual tour guide was nice, knowledgeable, helpful, and on time. *The Tunisian 'AOUES Travel and Events' company representative is also the same individual associated with the Tunisian 'Yahoo Travel' company, which provided a non-private tour (should have been private) the day before. See my separate review of that tour.
From Hammameth it took us over 1 hour to get there. In Sidi... we had about 1 hour to visit the house and the village. Then eat quickly and off to Tunis. Lawn through bazaar, stop at perfume shop, almost persuasion to buy. Then quickly through bazaar again and briefly look around and march back. We are not allowed to visit the Catholic cathedral. The guard didn't say you could enter until after 3:00. Too late for us. It's enough to get an idea what's how.
Hassen was an excellent guide and brought Carthage to life. He was extremely knowledgeable about the history, the sights we visited, and the plants and trees we encountered; he also had a great sense of humor! The visit to Sidi Bou Said was no different as he covered the history and pointed out key houses and scenic overlooks along the way in this beautiful area. And a shoutout to the driver Khalil who was by far the safest driver I encountered my entire time in Tunisia and always waiting where he was supposed to be when we finished exploring the sights. I highly recommend this tour with Hassen & Khalil.
Knowledgeable guide, Joseph was also very flexible and accompanied me even to the vegetable market after the tour. Had a great time!
Our guide Feme was amazing,- great sense of humor and he has a wide breadth of knowledge. He shared the history of each place with such detail you could almost see it. Both places are a must see. And you have to try the donuts in Sidi bou said.
Major confusion about how to meet up with tour. Fortunately others were going and the guide added us to his group. Excellent job explaining the history. Enjoyed the Carthaginean rounds and the Roman ruins. Also the chance to see the town of Sidi bou Said. Great views and a little shopping time.
