Aurangzeb finished it in 1673 and for 313 years nothing larger was built: a courtyard for a hundred thousand worshippers, four minarets of red sandstone, and marble domes that turn pink at sunset. It faces the Alamgiri Gate of the fort across the Hazuri Bagh, with the tomb of Allama Iqbal between them.
