Ontdek de straten waar Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington en andere geavanceerde Harlem Renaissance-spelers Amerikaanse muziek op de wereldkaart zetten. Op zondag bieden we een andere wandeltocht aan die geen Striver's Row aandoet, maar andere delen van Harlem omvat voor een kortere geschiedeniswandeltocht en een bezoek aan een lokale Baptist Church omvat voor een echte evangelisatie-ervaring. En waar Fidel Castro sliep nadat hij uit een hotel in de stad was gezet omdat hij kippen op zijn kamer had. De geschiedenis van Harlem is ook een van de meest dramatische van de stad, die de afgelopen ongeveer 400 jaar vele etnische, culturele en sociaaleconomische veranderingen heeft doorgemaakt. Dit heeft geresulteerd in een divers scala aan gebedshuizen, theaters, huizen en eetgelegenheden. Ga met ons mee naar de stad op onze kenmerkende, award winnende twee uur durende Harlem wandeltocht.

Begin uw verkenning bij een van de beroemde onderzoeksbibliotheken van de New York Public Library, die dienstdoet als een culturele instelling voor de tentoonstelling en het behoud van Afro-Amerikaanse ervaringen. Ervaar periodieke tentoonstellingen gewijd aan The Harlem Renaissance, Civil Rights Era en The Black Lives Matter Movement.
De kerk bestaat al ruim 220 jaar en is gevestigd in New York City, en sinds 1902 in Harlem. Het is een van de oudste Baptistenkerken in de Verenigde Staten.
Wandel door deze historische wijk met prachtige rijtjeshuizen met steegjes, gedeelde achterhuizen en binnenplaatsen die in de jaren 1890 zijn gebouwd. De thuisbasis van onder andere tapdanser en acteur Bill "Bojangles" Robinson, zwaargewichtbokser Harry "BLACK PANTHER" Willis, congreslid Adam Clayton Powell Jr. en William Marion Cook - 1e zwarte componist van Broadway-musicals.
Eigenaar en jazzicoon Bill Saxton, gevestigd aan de originele Swing Street van Harlem, treedt hier op met de beste artiesten uit de jazzwereld, waaronder de Amerikaanse jazz- en swingzangeres Billie Holiday.
"WHERE STARS ARE BORN & LEGENDS ARE MADE." Dit jaar vieren we ons 90-jarig jubileum met concerten van USHER, Smokey Robinson, Mary J. Beige, Baby face, om er maar een paar te noemen!

Our first time in Harlem, and Ronald was a perfect guide! We learned so much about Harlem and its history, heritage and culture! He also showed us wonderful initiatives that are being created and sustained by volunteers in the community! Ronald made it fun by asking our group questions about Black History, and showing us where famous Black artists, musicians, writers, inventors, scholars, and leaders lived. He was funny (when you go, try to get a "high five!), endearing (made a point to connect with a story with the places that each of us was from), and truly a beloved neighbor (saying hello to folks as they passed by our group and stopping to say "hi" to his friends who were sitting outside.) After the tour, we stayed in Harlem to find the stoop where A Great Day in Harlem photo was taken (thanks, Ronald for telling us where to find it!). And then, based on Ronald's suggestions, we stayed for dinner at Sylvia's and went to a local speakeasy to listen to amazing Jazz. It was our 27th wedding anniversary, and, we want to thank Ronald for making it a day of exploring, learning, and laughter! Your love and pride of Harlem was infectious - we plan on visiting again!
