In het museum vind je 6000 jaar oude armbanden, halskettingen en oorbellen die naar verluidt het oudste bewerkte goud ter wereld zijn. Je vindt er ook Romeinse chirurgische werktuigen, Hellenistische grafstenen en ontroerende voorwerpen, waaronder een marmeren plaquette met in het Grieks de namen van de afgestudeerden van de stad voor 221 na Christus. De inhuldiging van het archeologisch museum van Varna en de verdere ontwikkeling ervan hangen nauw samen met de namen van de twee broers Herman en Karel Škorpil, van oorsprong Tsjechen, die kwamen helpen bij de opvoeding en cultuur van hun zuster Slavische natie na de bevrijding van Bulgarije uit het Turkse juk. In 1894 vestigden ze zich permanent in Varna. Op 12 december 1901 richtte een groep sociaal actieve figuren en leraren de Varna Archaeological Society op, die sinds tientallen jaren de basismotiverende kracht voor interesse en studie is in de geschiedenis van Varna, Varna en Noordoost-Bulgarije. De inhuldiging van een archeologisch museum was een taak van primair belang voor de Society. Het gebouw werd oorspronkelijk gebouwd om een Girls High School te zijn tussen 1892-1898 naar het ontwerp van de beroemde Bulgaarse architect Petko Momchilov. De bouwstijl is een nieuwe renaissance. Het gebouw bestaat uit een kelder en twee verdiepingen. Het vormt bijna een volledig vierkant en omvat een ruime binnenplaats. Sommige kamers en gangen zijn versierd met muurschilderingen. Een doorlopende gang loopt door het hele gebouw en leidt naar de tentoonstellingsruimtes.

This museum is like everything in Bulgary, the content is interesting but the people are not ready for tourism. We arrived at the museum with children 1 hour before the closure. They didn't want to sold ticket for an hour. We explained that it was ok for us as we were with children. They accepted but asked us to be at the exist 10 minutes before the closure. After 15 minutes, some guardians asked already us to move to the exit. We finally did the full visit in 45 minutes after having be asked 5 times to move to the exit. Nothing ready for french people. No audio guide proposed as mentioned on the website. Ps. Don't visit yhe toilet...
This activity gave us the guides notes and an entry which made me buy it. Great value for money. Recommend to anyone on an individual trip. In my case it was with the business partners.
While in Varna we booked this activity which features an e-guide and entrance to the Archaeological museum. It's wonderful to have all the guides notes and to explore at your own pace. Real bargain with the entry.
This was a total rip off. I spent $11.50 for admission instead of a few lev. They gave me nothing & told me to read the English on the walls. You should be ashamed of yourselves for selling this
