Yaxchilan en Bonampak archeologische zone
Beschrijving
In Yaxchilan kunt u genieten van een prachtig landschap met een altijdgroene hoge jungledeken tot deze magnifieke archeologische vindplaats die bekend staat om zijn octrooi-sculpturale kunst in stèle en latei. Om het te bouwen, profiteerden de Maya's van de kenmerken van het terrein van een schiereiland, omringd door een meander van de rivier. In Bonampak kunnen we het prachtige Lacandon-oerwoud waarderen, op de plek waar drie kamers met schilderijen staan, moet worden opgemerkt dat dit een van de best bewaarde Maya-muurschilderingen is, in de muurschilderingen is de handel in oorlog en mensenoffers duidelijk te zien.

In Yaxchilan (groene stenen) kun je de jungle van Lacandon waarderen, aan de oevers van de Usumacinta-rivier, waar we een boot van 1 uur moeten navigeren om de archeologische vindplaats te bereiken. In deze imposante stad kun je de prachtige architectuur en beeldhouwkunst, de 124 inscripties verspreid over stèles, altaren en lateien, die de acties van hun heersers, ceremonies, veldslagen, rituelen en het dagelijkse leven vertellen.
In Bonampak (geschilderde muren) gaan we een beetje verder de Lacandon-jungle in, waar je de ongelooflijke geschilderde muurschilderingen kunt waarderen die opvallen door hun hoge mate van conservering. Je kunt ook ervaren dat je in contact bent met de Lacandones, dit zijn inheemse mensen uit de jungle.

Spectacular....off the beaten path literally. A great long boat trip on the river between Mexico and Guatemala to the city of Yaxhilan, Then you find yourself on a Mayan site half covered in vines and looking as if You yourself had discovered the city for the first time. The spider monkeys were amazing as well the howlers. Bonampak has an impressive temple set in the hillside and the famous murals of the Riyal Jaguar line. There's a lot of driving, 3.5 hrs each way but staff friendly and breakfast and lunch thrown in. Highly reccomended.
Picked up late. Seats broken in van; no AC; no English. Food good. 15 hours uncomfortable. 152 topes. Ruins and boat ride SPECTACULAR.

Fabulous trip, well organised and well worth the money. Great breakfast and lunch stops (very high quality food with lots of choices). And the boat trip and ruins you visit are just sublime. Only slight negative is that it is quite cramped on the minibus, but easily worth the trade off for what you get out of it!
The sites were some of the most amazing we have seen in Mexico, full points for that. The organization of the trip was very poor wirh a lot of confusion, changing cars and schedules. No-one spoke a word of english, would definetly not recommend this tour operator unless you have at least a clue of spanish.
I have done the tour to the archaeological areas of Yaxchilan and Bonampak and it has been a very good experience! The guide explained everything super well, the places have been amazing and everything has worked perfectly. I'll be back!
beautiful archeological sites, to Yaxchilan you get by the Usumacinta river, it is a hidden gem. In Bonampak you will see the best paintings in the Mayan sites. Both are highly recommended
Loved it. I feel like we got great value for our dollar here. The ruins were awesome, the logistics of the trip were well thought out and the food at the restaurants for breakfast and lunch was really tasty. Absolutely recommend.
The yaxchilan site is beautiful with access by canoe in the middle of a preserved jungle. Bonempak with paintings of all beauties. The meals included were very good (breakfasts after 1h30 in a very clean space, lunch after the visit very well with a very good welcome). On the other hand I put minus 2 on the note because our guide on yaxchilan was very unsympathetic and apart from showing us 2 monkeys and looking at his cell phone did not bring us anything.
Well paced and organised tour. Long journey broken up by loo stops and drinks/food. Great driver. Good Spanish guide at Yaxchilan. Not expensive. Long day. Hot and humid. But worth it to see Mayan sites in the middle of the jungle in their raw cleaned state. Our group of 7 were virtually the only ones there. Highly recommended
