Workshop Koken & Proeven Portugal in Porto

Great fun Hugo was very funny and interesting and a very good chef! great group of people all different nationalities and we all each did a little bit to complete a delicious 3 course, traditional Portuguese meal. If you have time do this workshop if you dont have time, make time !

This was easily one of the best experiences in all our years of traveling. Our host/chef/instructor Hugo, managed to take a group of six people of different ages and backgrounds and not only show us how to properly prepare a wonderful meal, but to have a great time getting to know him and each other. Can’t say enough about the whole experience, including our trip with Hugo to the market to select and purchase ingredients for the meal. Great to see him interact with the vendors. Thanks for a memorable day!

We really enjoyed our cooking class with Afanso! He took us to visit the Porto Market prior to the class, showing us around all of his favorite vendors. In class, Afonso did a great job of explaining what we were going to make and how each of us would participate. The resulting dishes were wonderful and we enjoyed them with a glass of wine once they were all prepared. Afonso was very engaging with all of the participants, his personality made the class a joy to attend. We highly recommend booking this experience while you’re in Porto!

We met at the workplace and then walked to the market. That was really nice and even though I’ve been to other markets this one was really nice. We then walked back to the work shop/cooking class room. Then we prepared a three course meal by ourselves with Afonso’s direction. Btw, Afonso was truly great. Very knowledgeable and calm with a terrific sense of humor. We made a great soup followed by a cod dish (with onion, garlic, olive oil and cheese. I had seconds. That was followed by a delicious almond tart. I’m not a desert guy but this was great. Lots of wine, water, coffee and port. I would take this cooking class again.

My sister and I participated in a cooking class led by Hugo in January 2026, and I highly recommend that you do too! The class was wonderful! There was a social atmosphere and it took place in a lovely work space. We were introduced to traditional cuisine and, collaboratively, prepared a meal that was absolutely delicious. Hugo explained (and demystified) several cooking techniques and gave thoughtful advice on recipe variations. He was very accommodating, making the event welcome to everyone, including beginner chefs and people with allergies / food restrictions. My sister and I may be back home now, but Hugo provided us with the tools we needed to bring a little bit of Portugal back with us.

What an incredible experience! Paulo was such a terrific & knowledge chef & host. We signed up for the market tour where we picked all of the ingredients we were going to cook with. He took his time explaining everything. The class was very hands-on, everyone participated in some way and the food & wine were delicious. You will not leave hungry. We cooked up a 3 course traditional meal. It was truly fabulous.

We enjoyed going to the market with our chef (I’m sorry I don’t know how to spell his name😞): That was a great experience! He really is a pro in allowing all to participate after explaining and modeling what to do. The recipes were delicious. One of the better cooking classes we have experienced.

Hugo was not only knowledge, but had a great sense of humor, he kept the entire group engaged. Would highly recommend!

This experience blew us away. The chef was so fun, personable, and educated. He led a very interactive class that felt very comfortable and exciting. I felt like I was dining with good friends by the end of the experience. The market tour was amazing too!
