Op deze kleine groepsreis "In de voetsporen van WO2" duiken we in de geschiedenis. Dit is een geweldige aanvulling op rondleidingen over de Joodse geschiedenis in Amsterdam en het Anne Frank Huis. We bezoeken een voormalig concentratiekamp van de nazi's, met zijn barakken, gedenktekens en crematorium. Corrie Ten Boom zat hier tijdens de oorlog gevangen. Veel Joodse kinderen werden van hieruit naar Polen gestuurd en honderden verzetsleden werden geëxecuteerd. We zullen ook de locaties van Operatie Market Garden en de slag om Arnhem bezoeken: wat was het plan en hoe is het mislukt? Wat waren de gevolgen voor het Nederlandse volk en de geallieerden? De tentoonstelling in het Airborne Museum in Arnhem, de oorlogsbegraafplaats en de John Frostbrug zijn een must see tijdens deze tour. Bezoek je liever de oorlogsbegraafplaats in Groesbeek, Overloon of Magraten, of het voormalige concentratiekamp Westerbork waar Anne Frank en haar familie gevangen zaten, boek dan onze privé WO2 tour!

We bezoeken het voormalige nazi-concentratiekamp Vught in Zuid-Holland. Het kamp werd voor het eerst gebruikt in 1942 en bood onderdak aan 31.000 Joodse en politieke gevangenen. We bezoeken de overblijfselen van het concentratiekamp met zijn wachttorens, kazernes, crematorium, originele trein en kindermonument. Ook bezoeken we de executieplaats in het bos waar ruim 300 verzetsmensen zijn geëxecuteerd. De camping heeft een boekwinkel, een goede audiotour en een kleine cafetaria.
De John Frostbrug over de Rijn bij Arnhem was de laatste brug die veroverd moest worden tijdens Operatie Market Garden. Als de geallieerden deze brug zouden kunnen veroveren, zou de weg naar Duitsland open liggen. De brug speelt een belangrijke rol in de film A Bridge Too Far.
We bezoeken het Airborne Museum in Villa Hartenstein. Tijdens de Slag om Arnhem in september 1944, die onderdeel was van de militaire operatie Market Garden, werd Hartenstein tijdens hevige gevechten het hoofdkwartier van de Britse Airborne Divisie. De gedurfde poging om door de Duitse linies te breken en het Ruhrgebied te veroveren om de oorlog snel te beëindigen, was niet succesvol. De brug bij Arnhem bleek een brug te ver. Nu herbergt Hartenstein persoonlijke verhalen van zowel Britse, Poolse en Duitse soldaten als burgers, verteld aan de hand van de unieke historische voorwerpen van het museum.
We bezoeken de Oorlogsbegraafplaats Arnhem Oosterbeek. Hier worden de meeste van de 1684 gesneuvelde soldaten van de landingen in september begraven.

A must do. I cannot recommend this tour enough. This is a small, intimate tour with a very knowledgeable guide. The tour guide takes the time to share their own personal experiences, which adds another layer to the tour which is absolutely moving.
We had a very moving and informal trip to Camp Vught, and Arnhem. Ava at Dutch Tours was incredibly friendly, helpful, empathetic and informative - even sharing her own stories along with the background to this period of time. Thank you so much for making our time in Amsterdam so memorable!

Trip was an excellent tour. Sarah provided an excellent narrative with some personal history and cultural info. She was a great driver and was very courteous to our group. We had people with dietary needs and she was able to find us a great restaurant. She knew her history at all the stops. We loved the Airbourne Museum and we'll never forget our trip to Kamp Vught. Eva provided so much background and personal experiences passed on from members in her family to help us understand the brevity of what happened, why and the inhumane treatment of the Jews and others who tried to protect them. Heartbreaking how all this unfolded. Additionally, Eva thoroughly described the Battle of Arnhem and how it came to be and why followed by a trip to the museum and Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery, where over 1700 Allied soldiers were buried. The entire experience of seeing the war site, museum and cemetary gave me a very good understanding what our allied troops were fighting against and why. This was an extremely educational day and I'm very happy I booked this tour. I needed to know. I highly recommend this tour to others who are unclear how well organized concentration and elimination camps were designed and orchestrated by the Nazis to reach their end goal in their reign of perceived superiority and how necessary it was for our Allied forces to fight them.

The Footsteps of WWII tour was a humbling experience. Our tour guide Eva was the granddaughter of Holocaust survivors. Eva shared the personal experiences of her father and grandparents throughout the day which helped immerse us in that time period and helped us process the sites from a different perspective. The Airborne Museum at Villa Hartenstein was very well done, we could have spent days there. The grounds and audio narrative of Camp Vught concentration camp were well done. Eva was very personable, accommodating and her English was excellent. Eva was a great story teller which helped us understand the oppression of the Jewish community in the Netherlands. This was a great tour with an amazing tour guide. We would highly recommend this tour.
