Het park is 1.317 vierkante kilometer (131. 693 hectare) en varieert van 0 tot 152 meter boven de zeespiegel. Bijna honderdzesen meren (Willu) en tanks zijn verspreid over Wilpattu te vinden. Wilpattu is het grootste en een van de oudste Nationale Parken van Sri Lanka. Wilpattu is een van de beste nationale parken die wereldberoemd is om zijn populatie luipaarden (Panthera pardus kotiya). Van juli tot oktober 2015 werd in Wilpattu een camera-onderzoek op afstand uitgevoerd door de Wilderness & Wildlife Conservation Trust. Een monster van negenenveertig individuele luipaarden werd gefotografeerd in het onderzochte gebied en de dichtheid van het kerngebied lag tussen die van Blok I van Yala National Park en Horton Plains National Park.

Bezoek Wilpattu Nationaal Park. Wilpattu National Park is een park gelegen op het eiland Sri Lanka. Het unieke aan dit park is het bestaan van "Willus" - natuurlijke, met zand omrande waterbassins of depressies die zich vullen met regenwater. Gelegen in de droge laaglandzone van de noordwestkust van Sri Lanka. Het park ligt 30 km ten westen van Anuradhapura en 26 km ten noorden van Puttalam (ongeveer 180 km ten noorden van Colombo). We had a fantastic safari experience in Wilpattu with IM Pasindu Rukshan. He is an excellent jeep driver with incredibly sharp eyesight — within a short time he already managed to spot a leopard, which was very special to see in its natural habitat. He drives calmly and respectfully through the park, takes his time, and makes sure you get the best possible experience. Along the way he shares interesting insights and clearly has a lot of knowledge and passion for wildlife. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a great safari experience in Wilpattu!

We booked through Viator, we had a fantastic day. Our guide was brilliant, he spotted things that we would never be able to see, while driving us. We saw lots of animals, including 2 leopards, which was an incredible experience. We were very fortunate. Our guide also tried very hard to find elephants, but just wasn’t our day- we can’t complain as saw a lot, including jackal, crocodiles, lots of monkeys, a momentary glimpses of sloth bear and most importantly the leopards- amazing to see them. We were provided lunch, breaks and water. Crowds can get busy if a special animal is spotted, but our second leopard we got to watch from the bank walking, with only one other vehicle. Our only feedback would be that we didn’t receive any communication from company regarding pickup arrangements until I chased through Viator, when we were concerned on the afternoon before our trip. This was quite stressful. Otherwise a brilliant day, would really recommend.

Pasindu Rukshan gave us an excellent safari in Wilpattu NP. He is an experienced driver and knew all the best spots for good animal viewing. We were lucky enough to see a leopard and a sloth bear up close, and also saw elephants, water buffalo, lots of different birds, deer, monkey and monitor lizards. We highly recommend Pasindu.

We used Booking.com to book our tour. It was amazing!! Our driver picked us up from our hotel and they were up front about the charges. We were in a Jeep all to ourselves and the driver was great. Very thorough and let us know about all the animals we saw. Did everything he could to make sure we saw everything and we were so lucky to be able to see both an elephant and a leopard. Lovley beautiful national park to drive through and saw lots of birds, owls, stalks, peacocks, monkeys, mongoose and so much more. Couldn't recommend these people any more, they were just great!

Friendly service, experienced driver with a keen eye who spent extra time trying to find a leopard after spotting fresh tracks. No luck with the leopard this time, but lots of incredible birds, lizards, butterflies, buffalo, monkeys, deer and mongooses

An incredible trip I won’t forget! We saw plenty of animals. My only feedback is that they could upgrade their vehicles, as my vehicle smelled strongly of gas. Be prepared for a lot of movement while riding, since the roads aren't paved much and there’s no seat belt.

Really nice experience. Felt unrushed and lovely scenic drive, with lots of animal sightings.. including the elusive leopard hanging on a high tree branch. Our guide and driver were great and made sure we had the best time and pointed lots of animals. Great half day and definitely recommend doing it and in morning too.

I was expecting to see more animals at the beginning of the tour but actually most viewings happened towards the end of the tour. We saw many deers, peacocks, wild buffaloes, birds including eagles. We also saw one crocodile, turtle and few mongoeses and monkeys. All of the sudden, our driver Pasindu from Travceylon, heard about a leopard viewing, he turned around, drove faster than usual and we got the great chance to see a young male leopard on the path itself so we could have a look at it… The highlight of the safari! Moreover while we were not the only jeep in the park, it was not feeling too crowded and we were never with more than 2 jeeps where animals were. The tour was a good hour longer than expected which was also a nice surprise, we also had a little break at a view point at a lake.
