Bezoek aan twee wijndomeinen van de afgebakende regio van de Algarve, begeleid door een wijnexpert, en doe diepgaande kennis op over alle aspecten van de wereld van wijn en het proces van wijnmaken. Voor de lunch traditioneel Portugees eten in een typisch restaurant in Silves. Deze historische stad, die voorheen de hoofdstad was van het Moorse koninkrijk van de Algarve, ligt op het platteland, tussen de kust en de bergen van de regio en hier vinden we een zeer traditionele Portugese en Algarve-gastronomie met zowel invloeden van de oceaan als van het binnenland.

Gelegen ten noorden van Portimão, al in de provincie Silves. Het is een exclusieve wijnboerderijproductie, die het meest noordelijk in de regio ligt, direct aan het begin van het Monchique-gebergte. Eigendom van een Portugees-Frans echtpaar dat elkaar ontmoette in Bordeaux, waar hij werd geboren en opgroeide onder invloed van wijn. Ze verhuisden in het begin van de eeuw naar de regio om dit project vanaf nul te starten. Op de hellingen van de rivier de Odelouca Vlley plantten ze hun wijngaard en bouwden ze hun kleine maar goed uitgeruste wijnmakerij, die ook een proeflokaal, vatenkamer en laboratorium herbergt.
Gelegen in het noordelijke grensgebied van Portimão en Alvor. Met de grote berg van Monchique, die het uitzicht domineert als we bij de wijngaarden zijn, heeft dit grote landgoed ook groeigebieden met kurkbomen, korenvelden en sinaasappelbomen. In de familie sinds 1865 en producenten van druiven sinds lange tijd, bouwde deze boerderij hun moderne wijnmakerij in 1999 en was de eerste die gecertificeerde wijnen met een oorsprongsbenaming produceerde in de Algarve. In de esplanade, bij de winkel of bij de eikenhouten vaten is de traditie van dit familielandgoed zichtbaar.

Despite a cloudy day, this wine tour was a great all day experience! We chose the lunch inclusion over the Silves city tour and happy we did! The wine and food we got to experience was excellent (and stories behind them). We visted the town of Silves on a different day. The two wineries we visited were different - each delivering their own twist on taste and quality. We really enjoyed the reds at Quinta do Frances, and in particular the Touriga Nacional. A full bodied red that is unique. The syrah was excellent as well. Great views from their patio as well. The second winery was the Convento do Paraiso which had beautiful whites and roses - in a beautiful old mill by the water (former convent). We were impressed by our guide Fabio (who owns the business) and the sharing of local information, history and family traditions. He was able to share many of the food creations and/or items we had at the lunch - the pan fried black pork was outstanding! The goat cheeses are fantastic as well. We went on this tour with another couple and a family member. We are experienced wine enthusiasts and the other three were "new" to the wine making area. Despite two signifcantly different backgrounds, Fabio did a great job making it all work (more in depth at time and providing a great overview for all to enjoy).

A fabulous way to see the beautiful hillsides of Alentejo, while learning about the local history, wineries, and their farming practices. We learned so much about the growing process, the types of grapes, and the opportunity to see the production process. Fabio is a treasure trove of the local stories and made for a wonderful day. This tour allowed us to interact with the local people, enjoy delicious food, and offer a special experience.

We had a wonderful experience, it was one of our favorite parts of our trip to Portugal! Fabio, our tour guide, picked us up and returned us to our condo after the tour, and he was incredible He was very friendly and knowledgeable, not only about the wine but the area we were visiting. We loved the fact that it was just the 4 of us in our group with him. The wines at each winery were very enjoyable, the lunch spot was incredible and the food fantastic. A great excusrsion, I would highly recommend to anyone visiting the Algarve. A visit to a small producer and then a visit to a larger commercial vineyard. Then a beautiful lunch in Silves. Fabio is an excellent guide, he has great knowledge of the area and the viticulture in the region.

Our wine tour day with Fabio was excellent. It was time well spent to see the area, learn about the terroir, local varietals and influences on the wine in this region.
