Een oude marktstad, nu beroemd om zijn kustlido, het ene uiteinde van de Great Western Railway die begint in Londen en de haven naar The Scilly Isles.
Een klein schilderachtig vissersdorpje, waar de huizen rond een kleine beschermde haven liggen.
Een ruige baai gelegen in een prachtig landschap, dit is een idyllische plek om de zee van dichtbij te ervaren, even verbluffend als het stormt of vlak kalm waait. Nu beroemd vanwege het aantrekken van post-impressionistische kunstenaars van de Newlyn School of Art in het begin van de twintigste eeuw.
Lokale mythe en legende zegt dat deze stenen cirkel werd gevormd toen 19 meisjes in steen werden veranderd om op een zondag te dansen. Een schitterend voorbeeld van een neolithische stenen cirkel uit 3000 voor Christus.
Als je Poldark ooit hebt gezien, zal dit kleine vissersdorpje herinneringen oproepen aan smokkelaars en pilchard-vissen.
Gemaakt door Rowena Cade in de jaren 1920, is dit openluchttheater gebouwd in de rotsachtige granieten rotsen boven Porthcurno.
Porthcurno staat bekend om twee dingen. Ten eerste het eerder genoemde Minack Theatre en ten tweede het Telegraph Museum waar transatlantische kabels vanuit de hele wereld aan land kwamen.
Het meest zuidwestelijke punt in Groot-Brittannië. Een geweldige plek om te kijken naar de golven die over de rotsen hieronder slaan en om uw foto onder het bestemmingsbord te laten maken.
Oorspronkelijk gedacht het meest westelijke punt van Groot-Brittannië te zijn, totdat de enquêtekaarten van Ordnance anders suggereerden. Gekocht in 1987 door de familie Heinz en vervolgens aan de natie nagelaten heeft het een iconisch symbool bovenaan de cape.
Ross Poldark's mijn "Wheal Leisure" wordt hier gefilmd samen met de mijnen van zijn neef Frances en zijn vader George Poldark. In 2006 werd het gebied aangewezen als onderdeel van de UNESCO-werelderfgoedsite voor mijnbouw in Cornwall.

Be careful. Do NOT book this tour if on a cruise ship! Our cruise ship cancelled this stop due to weather (winds causing waves) and we only got 10% refund back. Lost over $1,000!!
Our driver, Simon, was excellent in giving us a full day of Cornwall experiences and in maneuvering the narrow lanes that allowed us to get to places that large tour buses cannot get to—beautiful and peaceful places. Our only complaint is that we stood around for quite some time to meet up with him when he was there the whole time but in a vehicle that gave NO indication that it was connected to Meneage Tours. It would have been nice if we been told to look for Telstar instead, especially since I inquired twice ahead of time as to how to recognize our tour at the dock.
We didn't know anything about Cornwall or the region, and we saw both Poldark sites and others. We also enjoyed a classic pub lunch.

We had the best day with Doug!!! We arrived on a cruise ship and were promptly picked up. Our tour was informative and fun. Back on board, it was apparent that we saw more than anyone else. I would highly recommend this tour!

Loved this tour. Communication with the tour provider was outstanding. Phil met us at our hotel on time and was very courteous. He listened to our wishes, and even though we didn't have specific places we wanted to visit, Phil recommended a tour which was outstanding. Even though the weather was fairly typical for this time of year, cool and wet, we pushed through and visited many mines, Penzance, St Ives, Lands End, Mousehole, and several Poldark locations used for filming. He allowed us ample time for walking and hiking and brought along a large umbrella for our use. He was very well versed on the history of the area, and we stopped at a country side pub for a lovely lunch of pasties and English roast sirloin of beef with yorkshire pudding, potatoes and fresh vegetables! 😋 yum! Phil showed us the out of the way historical markers, such as a historical field of prehistoric markers in a farmers field which could be visited by the public, similar to Stonehenge. Of course, we did visit the field, albeit the mud, wet and cool weather! I also got a lot of pictures of the lovely daffodils in bloom around Cornwall! It was a bit muddy that day, but we had a great time! My husband and I highly recommend this tour and really really appreciated Phil as our tour guide!

Doug is an amazing tour guide. He is extremely knowledgeable about the history of Cornwall & surrounding area & about many of the Poldark filming locations. He made the tour unforgettable. I highly recommend this tour.

We had a wonderful time spending two days with Doug seeing so many amazing places in Cornwall. We did his "Lizard Peninsula" and "Poldark & West Cornwall" tours across the two days, with a few tweaks here and there to accommodate our specific interests. Before the trip, he was very responsive to all of my questions, and during the tour he did a wonderful job driving us through and to places we never could have found or navigated on our own. He is very knowledgable about the area and all the places we visited. It was our first trip to Cornwall, and we couldn't have asked for a better introduction to all of the beautiful places it has to offer!

We loved this tour with Doug at the wheel. Very informative and visited some beautiful parts of Cornwall. Pub lunch was very good a full day of history and magical scenery. Would love to do it again. Thank you Doug for looking after us.
