Geniet van je excursie naar een van de beste Keniaanse strandsafari's, ten noorden van Mombasa, het kleine kustplaatsje Watamu staat bekend om het Watamu Marine National Park. Het park beschikt over drie schitterende baaien, witte zandstranden en een wonderbaarlijk koraalrif onder water, een van de beste snorkel- en duikervaringen aan de Oost-Afrikaanse kust. Dit charmante paradijs wordt omringd door een overvloed aan natuurlijke schoonheid omzoomd door weelderige tropische regenwouden en mangroven. Kom dichterbij en zwem met dolfijnen die normaal in het gebied te vinden zijn. Ga naar het eiland Sudi en ontmoet de lokale bevolking die er woont en neem een kanotocht diep in het mangrovebos op het eiland en zie de wezens die er bestaan.

Onze chauffeur-gids haalt je vroeg in de ochtend uit je hotel of het gewenste ophaalpunt en rijd vervolgens noordwaarts naar Watamu via de Mombasa Malindi. Het is 100 km van Mombasa en het zal ongeveer anderhalf uur om watamu te bereiken. Onderweg ziet u verschillende landschappen en plantages langs de weg. Rond 9.30 uur komen we aan bij het Marine park Watamu. Je chauffeur zal je overgeven aan de kapitein / gids die ervoor zal zorgen dat je marine park fees worden betaald, en dan zul je aan boord gaan van een gemotoriseerde glazen boot met 2 decor zodat je kunt op het bovendek liggen en zonnebaden of gewoon ontspannen op het benedendek en geniet van het onderwaterleven terwijl je vaart naar het Marine park. Je excursie begint met dolfijnen waarnemen waar je kapitein / gids je naar de hotspots brengt waar je volgens zijn ervaring in staat bent om te zien en te zwemmen met de dolfijnen, onthoud dat dit voor de avontuurlijke zielen is. Zodra de dolfijnen stoppen met bewegen, kunt u uw snorkeluitrusting aantrekken (aan boord te leveren) en in de oceaan springen zodat u van dichtbij kunt komen met de vriendelijke wezens. Na het gekke plezier stap je weer op de glazen boot en vervolg je richting het marine park. De ongerepte witte zandstranden en rif-beschermde lagunes lijn het Watamu National Marine Park en Reserves, die de oudste zijn in Oost-Afrika en beslaan meer dan 229 kmsq. Het is een van de best bewaarde geheimen ter wereld, waarbij alleen het Groot Barrièrerif zelf een grotere soortenlijst heeft en dat alleen in een veel grotere uitgestrektheid! Het beschermde zeegebied in Watamu wordt ook erkend internationaal als biosfeerreservaat van UNESCO. Dit betekent dat het gebied is aangewezen als een site van natuurlijke excellentie, en moet aantonen hoe lokale mensen en het milieu naast elkaar kunnen bestaan door middel van zorgvuldig beheer van onze natuurlijke rijkdommen en menselijke rijkdommen. Het Marine Park and Reserve is wereldwijd bekend om zijn natuurlijke schoonheid en heeft een rijk onderwaterleven. Het is vrijwel onmogelijk om te snorkelen zonder op zijn minst een paar dozijn soorten in het hoofdrif te zien; duikers buiten het randrif hebben een uitstekende kans om de magnifieke walvishaai en Manta Rays te zien die seizoensbezoekers zijn. November is het beste om deze dieren te spotten. Het park is ook de thuisbasis van drie soorten zeeschildpadden die ook nestelen op de stranden van het Marine Park. Het park en de koraaltuinen zijn een van de belangrijkste redenen om Watamu te bezoeken. Enkele van de meest voorkomende vissen zijn natuurlijk de papegaaivis, waarvan de vertering van de koraalriffen in de loop van de millennia het witte zandstrand zelf heeft geproduceerd. Angelfish, groupers, file fish, lion fish en snappers zijn slechts een handvol van de gemakkelijk te zien soorten binnen deze schitterende, felgekleurde onderwaterwereld. Een van de beste routes die uw kapitein in dit avontuur gaat volgen, is een zachte cruise naar de Larder in Turtle Bay. Vertrek tussen de twee rotsachtige eilanden direct ten zuiden van het KWS Blue Bay HQ. Terwijl de glazen boot zachtjes over het geërodeerde koraal drijft richels, er zijn talloze juffervissen, jonge vlinder en maanvissen, murenen, baarzen en octopus. Via de zeegraspas vind je blauwe gevlekte roggen, mul en snappers. Zodra u bij de rand van het grasveld komt, draait u ongeveer 100 meter naar rechts en volgt u de grasrand langs de contourlijn. Na ongeveer 100 meter ziet u de Larder aan uw linkerhand; een serie van 6 of zo grote koralenkoppen die het huis zijn van honderden sweetlips, snappers en drummervissen. Je zult ook leeuwvissen en krokodillenvissen vinden als je goed kijkt. Een andere bonus is de grote barracuda die in grote groepen rond de zeebodem hangt. Het zijn nachtelijke feeders en slapen overdag dus zijn gemakkelijk te benaderen. Er is een uitzonderlijke kustlijn met Watamu uitgeroepen tot een van de top tien stranden in de wereld; doordrenkt van natuurlijke fauna en flora en met drie prachtige baaien, Watamu, Blue Lagoon en Turtle Bay. Hier mag je ook in de oceaan duiken om te snorkelen en ondiep duiken in de oceaanbodem om de prachtige koraalgrotten onder het blauwe water te zien. Krijg een kans om te zwemmen en honderden scholen vis en schildpadden aan te raken. Na het snorkelen is de volgende stop een geweldig, wit zandstrand met kristalhelder blauw water waar je een tijdje van de boot mag stappen om een tijdje op dit magische water te zwemmen. voordat je terugkeert naar de boot en vaar naar het eiland Sudi terwijl je geniet van de weelderige groene mangroves langs de kreekzijde. Omstreeks -1: 00 uur zullen we aankomen op het eiland Sudi, waar je een warm welkom zult ontvangen op het eiland, gevolgd door een beetje entertainment van de inboorlingen. De kapitein en zijn bemanning zullen zich dan snel gaan voorbereiden op waar ze zullen gaan grillen en vers en lekker zeevis eten serveren met variëteiten zoals; kreeften, koningsvis, baracuda en krabben enz. (kip is beschikbaar voor degenen die geen vis eten) Na de lunch kun je ervoor kiezen om met een gids een kanotocht over het mangrovebos op het eiland te maken en een beetje geschiedenis te leren over het eiland en de wezens die daar te vinden zijn Voor degenen die ervoor kiezen om op het eiland te blijven, kan de gelegenheid worden aangegrepen om te zwemmen op de oevers van de eilanden of gewoon in de zon te vliegen en foto's te nemen. Neem de tijd en leg uw laatste momenten vast op de zandstranden. Geniet van je laatste momenten op het eiland en zijn omgeving. Om 04.30 uur is het tijd om aan boord van de boot te gaan en terug te varen naar het vasteland waar uw chauffeur wacht om u terug naar uw hotel te rijden of naar het gewenste afleverpunt voor het diner. The pursuit of poor dolphins is shameful, surrounded by 4 or 5 boats. Then, no corals but a few small fish with dozens of tourists on a single "spot" very poor when you know other places like sharm el sheikh, port cros, Noumea... Mida creek on the other hand is worth it, beautiful. Given the poverty of the unique snorkling venue, the marine park protects nothing, just controls that we don't have plastic bottles and cashes in fees. From the beach, there's nothing underwater.
Not very fan, diving did not allow us to see very little fish many seaweed. The mangrove can be seen from the boat. The best was the meal on the island and the atmosphere on the boat.
Don't book any type of trip with this thieves they took my money and didn't take me on a trip, they didn't refund me and it has been weeks.

If you’re looking for an incredible day out, look elsewhere. We felt very underwhelmed by several factors of this excursion. The communication and pickup was faultless. Very friendly, kind and accommodating. We are easy going, as were the hosts of this tour. Once we arrived to the boat location, we boarded a very busy boat. We were then chaperoned to de-board and get on a different boat for some unknown reason. Which brings me onto one of the largely unfavorable parts of this tour. Which is that (perhaps we got unlucky?) but no one would speak English to us, or let us know what was going on throughout the day. The primary language spoken appeared to be Italian, which is great! However, we were left behind, as we do not speak Italian. My partner and I are early thirties, and we’re a very friendly and outgoing couple. We invited conversion so many times with numerous people but it was not well recieved, and very short lived. The tour as a whole felt very Italy-centric, which again, is not a criticism, but it felt disappointing to be left behind as the only English speakers on board. Throughout the day, there were numerous interruptions and delays, which were considerably extended. I’m not just talking a few minutes, perhaps 30-45 minutes at a time. Which would prompt us to ask what was the hold up in the nicest way possible. The tour itself consisted of a really quite random and slow zig-zag boat ride across to the mangroves. This was another thing that felt as though it was done in an effort to kill time and make the day last a full day. This was the first part of the day, and definitely did not set things off well. Once arrived in the mangroves area, we take a steady cruise deeper into the mangroves, seeing very few wildlife, perhaps a few birds, to make a u-turn back the way we came in to exit the mangroves. Following that, a 30 minute stop in shallow waters to take a dip, this was nice. The general atmosphere on the boat, was dry, and left ALLOT to be desired. We felt the other passengers were feeling it too. But this really stems from poor coordination and control from those who are running the tour. Which brings me onto how the tour is run. It appears upon booking you are allocated a “tour guide” per group or per booking. And on the boat and through the day, that person stays with you making sure you don’t get lost. Perhaps we got unlucky… Our tour guide was very lovely and a sweet person, but barely guided us, as we kept having to ask time and time again, what is going on, where are we going next. What’s happening. Which became a drag. The other groups on the same tour as us, appeared to have better luck, as there were guides on the boat who were very active and engaging with their groups, albeit in Italian, which sadly we do not speak. We stopped to have lunch on Waka waka island. This was lovely. The food was excellent, the locals very friendly, all round the highlight of the day. Some dancing with the locals. Plenty of food to go around, fruit, and beverages. The canoeing part of the excursion was completely cancelled for unknown reasons. All was told to us is “there is no time”. Which is baffling when the entire day, the passengers including ourselves had been patiently waiting for things to happen, and everyone had generally been prompt with following instructions. Lastly, the snorkeling, arguably the most important part of the day, was borderline dangerous. They take you way out of the cover of the land, close to where the sea merges with the back waters, and drop anchor. The currents in the water were incredibly strong, quite literally drifting you away at quite a pace from the boat. If you are not a strong swimmer. This is an absolute no go for you. And even if you are, you need stamina to get back to the boat. There were a couple of times within our group where tourists cried for help for buoyancy aids, as the undercurrents of the sea had overwhelmed them. It was risky, and I really think this should not be conducted when the sea state is as unstable as it was, or perhaps there should be an alternative more covered spot for this activity to take place, or the entire tour to be rescheduled. Overall, we were left feeling underwhelmed, and bored. It’s sad to say it but that’s our truth! If you decide to go on this trip. I hope you have a better experience than we did.
Originally scheduled to arrive at Ocean Park was 9:30 a.m., actually 10:08 before the boat departs, waiting for more than an hour. Originally intended for a maximum of six people per boat, actually made 18 people on board. It was intended to ride a double-layered glass boat, in fact there is no, so there is no underwater view. The delphin tour was scheduled to be canceled. It was supposed to have a bottle of water, actually did not give me, but the regulation can not bring bottle of water, hurt me not drinking water all day. There was originally planned to change the canoe to see the red forest, there is actually no canoe. It was originally scheduled to return at 4:30 p.m., and actually returned at 3:00 p.m., and the journey began late and ended early.
We actually booked the tour because of the snorkeling, the reef is supposed to be impressive. When we got on the boat we were told that we wouldn't see the dolphins because of the change in the tides. When we got to the reef the sea was so stormy that we couldn't see the reef or the fish. During lunch, guests joined us who went snorkeling after eating. They were called at exactly the same time as we were snorkeling, but weren't informed about the situation. After the tour we contacted the organizer. They apologized and said they were surprised by the change in the weather. Which in our view is an excuse. We think they should have informed us before the tour, then we could have decided again. After all, 630 Swiss francs isn't a small sum... The transfer from Mombasa went perfectly, the food was good and the canoe trip through the mangrove forest was also nice...at least a positive ending...
Wonderful experience. We had an amazing driver Jimmy who was very friendly and funny. A great companion on the road. Even though we weren't able to see the dolphins due to high waves and raining season it was still a wonderful experience, worth it!
Such an amazing trip- great guides. Lots of dolphins. We did have weather on our side but the guides were amazing Derrick and Jim were so insightful and kept us comfortable.
