Een bijzondere en gespecialiseerde tour voor reizigers die van geschiedenis, politiek en cultuur houden en meer willen weten over een van de meest diverse steden en landen in Latijns-Amerika. Tijdens de rondleiding wordt er gebruik gemaakt van educatief materiaal en vertelt de gids over zijn eigen ervaringen. Hij is namelijk de neef van een voormalige president van Bolivia en een afstammeling van mensen die politiek vervolgd werden tijdens de militaire dictaturen. Tijdens deze tour maken we kennis met de strijd van het Boliviaanse volk, hun tragedies, oorlogen, revoluties, liefde, moed en vele andere aspecten die het karakter van de Boliviaanse samenleving kenmerken. We beginnen de tour, waar de paleizen van de regering en het parlement zich bevinden. Waar we veel zullen leren over de turbulente geschiedenis en politieke aspecten van Bolivia, vanaf het koloniale tijdperk toen La Paz tot het Spaanse rijk behoorde tot het heden. Nu bezoeken we het Chaco War Memorial, de laatste oorlog die Bolivia heeft uitgevochten. Tijdens dit bezoek hebben we wapens, uniformen, foto's, medailles en andere voorwerpen waargenomen die tijdens deze oorlog zijn gebruikt. Wist je dat Bolivia het Latijns-Amerikaanse land is dat de meeste internationale oorlogen heeft gehad? (Het inkomen is een vrijwillige bijdrage aan het Memorial-personeel)
We bezoeken de iconische Heksenstraat waar we foto's kunnen maken met de muurschilderingen en parasols van deze toeristenstraat. Tijdens het bezoek aan deze bestemming leren we over de invloed, eigenaardigheden en overtuigingen van de overheersende inheemse volkeren van de Andesregio van Bolivia, we leren ook meer over alle inheemse volkeren van Bolivia. Wist u dat Bolivia wordt beschouwd als een van de meest diverse landen op het gebied van culturele en ecologische aspecten?
In Bolivia zijn we gek, nu bezoeken we (van buitenaf) een van de gevaarlijkste gevangenissen van Latijns-Amerika. (Ja, de gevangenis bevindt zich in het midden van de stad. Op deze bestemming leren we over veel problemen die de moderne Boliviaanse samenleving teisteren, evenals over verhalen die buiten hun context liggen en die zich in deze gevangenis hebben afgespeeld.
We sluiten de tour af met het observeren van het Copacabana Hotel, waar Ernesto "Che" Guevara verbleef toen hij in 1967 in Bolivia aankwam. Tijdens dit bezoek leren we over zijn acties in Bolivia, de oprichting van een guerrilla in Oost-Bolivia en de invloed van verschillende politieke stromingen in de huidige Boliviaanse politiek en samenleving.
We bezochten het gedenkteken voor de martelaren van de democratie, we bezochten de buitenkant van de plaats waar in de tijd van dictaturen een van de ergste misdaden werd gepleegd. Tijdens dit bezoek zullen we meer leren over de geschiedenis van Bolivia tijdens de 20e eeuw, vooral over het tijdperk van dictaturen die de Boliviaanse bevolking diep getekend hebben. We loved our tour with Shamira! She has a wealth of knowledge about Bolivia’s political and cultural landscape as a native of La Paz. The tour flew by as we walked around at a relaxed pace having great conversations. My favorite part was when she walked us through offerings and rituals done by Bolivians using goods found at the witches market. I would definitely recommend this tour - it was a highlight of our time in La Paz.

A very good overview of the political history of Peru. There were only two of us so we all could ask each other questions about our cultures which was fun!

Nelson really knows his stuff. He took me through the whole political history of Bolivia from the 1800’s onwards. The assassinations the Coups the Wars, the US involvement and the communists. Moving on to the people, the unions and the effect of drugs

It was an informative tour and our guide Nelson was great. At the start of the tour my girlfriend was feeling very sick so we sat at a cafe and he bought some coca leaves for her to feel better. In the tour he explained a lot of history and current political issues in Bolivia, as well as answering any questions we had as we walked around the city.

We were notified by whatsaap of a change of schedule the day before but we were very busy with our trip and could not see it. They say they called us but we didn’t hear the call either, so at the time we had chosen there was no one. They also do not return the money from the tickets, that is; without receiving a reply they consider our tickets lost with the change of timetable. This is disrespect and abuse of the client. They look like Rayanair.

The fascinating and inspiring political history of Bolivia was one of the reasons we came to La Paz. And this was a definite highlight of our stay. Unlike a lot of tourist-aimed tours that just tick off a couple major moments, this was incredibly, dense, well-researched and really explored the whole history of the city and the country — from the revolutionary wars and independence movement, to the recent socialist governments and the turmoil of the last decade. Rodrigo wasn't just super friendly and entertaining but incredibly well-informed and able to answer any follow up questions you might have. A perfect tour for history and politics enthusiasts. Highly recommend!
