Walvis-, dolfijn- en pinguïncruise
Beschrijving
Onze cruise is uniek omdat we actief zijn in de diverse Algoa Bay, rijk aan dieren en geschiedenis. Een bezoek aan het eiland St Croix, de thuisbasis van de helft van de overgebleven bedreigde Afrikaanse pinguïns ter wereld. Deze tour wordt slechts één keer per dag uitgevoerd in plaats van te proberen meerdere cruises op één dag uit te voeren. Dit zorgt ervoor dat onze schippers en gidsen fris en alert zijn voor elke cruise en het mogelijk maakt om meer tijd en moeite te besteden aan het zoeken naar dieren in het wild in onze baai of om iets speciaals te observeren dat we tegenkomen, op voorwaarde dat niemand aan boord haast heeft terug voor een vlucht of eerder gemaakte boekingen. Onze belangrijkste focus is onderwijs, instandhouding en assistentie bij onderzoek dat mogelijk wordt gemaakt door de fondsen die worden gegenereerd uit onze Marine Eco-Cruises naar Algoa Bay. Er worden bomen geplant om onze ecologische voetafdruk in evenwicht te houden voor elke uitgevoerde cruise. We gebruiken kleinere boten om onze cruises persoonlijk te houden. Onze schippers en gidsen zijn zeer deskundig en zijn er om eventuele vragen te beantwoorden en te voorzien in de behoeften van onze gasten.

We ontmoeten onze gasten om 8 uur 's ochtends en na een korte briefing voordat we op onze tweemotorige catamaran de prachtige Algoa-baai van PE in gaan. Het walvisseizoen begint in juni, wanneer we bultruggen langs de kust zien bewegen terwijl ze langs de oostkust van Afrika naar hun broedgebieden trekken. Bultruggen zijn te zien in Algoa Bay van juni tot begin december. Ze maken hun terugreis vanaf oktober, vrouwtjes met kalveren op sleeptouw. Van juli tot september zijn de zuidelijke rechtse walvissen dichtbij de kust te zien.
Indo-pacific tuimelaars zijn de meest waargenomen dolfijnen in de baai en kunnen het hele jaar door worden gespot, in groepen van 10-400. Deze speelse dolfijnen worden meestal gevonden in ondiepe wateren, ofwel in de buurt van de stranden of rond St Croix Island, en hebben de neiging om tot aan de boot te komen en mee te varen in de boeggolven. Gewone dolfijnen zijn ook een spectaculair gezicht omdat ze worden gezien in groepen van 1000-2000, die met grote snelheden langs zwemmen. Deze dolfijnen worden vaak het hele jaar door verder op zee gespot, vooral op de vogeleilandtours, omdat ze grote scholen aasvissen volgen die langs de baai bewegen. We krijgen ook bultrugdolfijnen in Algoa Bay, die meestal in veel kleinere groepen voorkomen, ergens tussen de 1 en 20, en die het meest worden gezien tijdens de zomermaanden.
St. Croix Island is de thuisbasis van 12.000 bedreigde Afrikaanse pinguïns, de grootste broedkolonie in Afrika (hoewel we in 10 jaar 70% hebben verloren). Hier kun je deze komische vogels van dichtbij ontmoeten. Het broedseizoen van de Afrikaanse pinguïn bereikt zijn hoogtepunt tussen maart en mei, wanneer je de kuikens vanaf de boot kunt zien. Naast Afrikaanse pinguïns worden zowel St. Croix als Brenton Island bewoond door de bedreigde Afrikaanse zwarte scholekster, witborstaalscholver en Kaapse aalscholvers. De St. Croix Island-groep, samen met de Bird Island-groep, werd onderdeel van het Addo Elephant National Park, waardoor rangers de eilanden konden patrouilleren ten behoeve van instandhoudingsinspanningen om de Afrikaanse pinguïnpopulatie te beschermen. Aangezien het Marine Protected Are-as zijn, moet u er rekening mee houden dat u de eilanden niet daadwerkelijk mag betreden.
Naast de bovengenoemde dieren heb je de mogelijkheid om witborstaalscholvers, Kaapse aalscholvers, bryde's walvissen, dwergvinvissen, Kaapse pelsrobben, verschillende soorten haaien, Kaapse jan-van-gent en verschillende soorten pelagische vogels te zien, waaronder sterns, stormvogels , jagers, pijlstormvogels en albatrossen.

Beautiful experience, absolutely recommended, we were there in August and we saw many animals such as dolphins, whales, seals, penguins and numerous varieties of birds. The guides are knowledgeable and very helpful
Genuinely enjoyed the experience, storytelling, atmosphere and of course, views. The tour stretched for another hour, because we spotted an ‘acrobatic’ performance by a whale and the guides just made sure that the visitors gained the most out of the experience. Thank you!!

An amazing experience! We were on the boat "My Bru" with skipper Lloyd and Keith. Both were fantastic humans, with lots of knowledge of Algoa bay and its marine life. We say lots of marine life including 2 species of dolphins and wales, penguins and seals! If you need convincing this is your sign to do it!

Definitely a must-experience, at least once in your life. I was lucky to have a voucher for 2 people for the trip. The whole cruise lasted longer than planned since we were trying to locate whales for a while and they popped up at some point unexpectedly. We had a small crowd according to the guides, and the staff were excellent on our tour. Lots of fun facts and they made sure we all got the most out of our experience. The waves were wilder than expected the further we got out to sea and sea-sickness was a struggle for most of the trip. It felt like a rollercoaster, especially for us first-timers on a boat. Definitely wear something that is water proof and warm if you can. Comfortable shoes and a rain jacket is advised!
Ahh - so happy you enjoyed all even though you got a little seasick and wet. Sounds like it was worth it and thank you for the tips - we will be sure to add a bit more info to our booking confirmation as to what to bring and advise about seasick medication to help make the ride more comfortable.
The atmosphere on the cruize was next level. Our skipper and crew know the environment, hence we got to see the dolphins, whales, seals and pinguins within a distance of +/- 15 to 20 m. How amszing is that. The crowd size was perfect. The 5 hours on the trip was my best 5 hours ever spent out in nature. The admission fee is reasonable and the timing to serve the snack was excellent. If you haven't been on the boat with Keith as your skipper, then please don't delay, the time is now.

An amazing day! Only 5 customers on the boat. Crew was friendly and knowledgeable. My family really appreciated that the business is very focused towards conservation. We saw ganets, cape fur seals, common dolphins, bottle nose dolphins, humpback whales, brides whales, penguins and 2 great white sharks. One of the sharks hung around the boat for a good hour. Of course, the sharks were the highlight but we loved the show the common dolphins put on as well.
